I'm making a gift presentation of a 1911 and want to incorporate a clear (lexan maybe, some sort of plastic) grip panel. I've seen one of these on one WWII era gun so they must be out there, any leads? Thanks.
I kinda remember some clear grips in Shakespears Romeo and Juliet (the one with Leonardo Dicaprio) always thought that was cool... but i think those were berettas.
Well...Actually, I don't have time for new experiments but, I couldn't resist it when I came across some clear acrylic in a local hardware store.Man..was it hard to bring back the clearity after all that sanding...I almost regret starting on them. Now I'm not sure if it's worth all that work adding something like this to my inventory so, I'd like to hear your opinion before I make a decision.I have this set and just about enough material for another one.
OMG Hakan! I didn't even think of that. I thought you STARTED OUT with a piece of acrylic already molded to the normal grip curvature. I didn't realize that you sanded/ground them down from a 'billet' piece of acrylic! Man - that's some fine hard work! You did get the clarity back VERY well.
If you're familiar with Hakan grips - You'll understand why I think that these clear grips would look great with his "Half and Half" treatment done to them.
If they're extra work, just charge extra. If people want them they'll pay the premium. I think they look great and have to be more comfortable than the Plastic-Tech slabs.
Thanks for your input Black Snowman.I hope I didn't give the impression of getting ready to charge extra for them.I share that info to point out how time consuming it was to make them...which is something I don't have much of
