Who makes the Best 92 lever gun today?

A few years back I came into a 92 winchester in 32-20 and was amazed at how slick and accurate it was. It totally blew away the Rosi I owned at the time. After selling most of my collection to pay bills I can now start to rebuild. So in your opinion who makes the best 92 today? And thank you for your answers.:)
 
Water-Man: if someone ever hands you an original 1892 in good condition, hand it back to him immediately. Do NOT touch the lever.:D
 
I can attest to the Puma 92 being slicked up really nice and with very little effort. The OP did qualify their question with "...who makes the best 92 today?".

I don't know who's making '92 today, but can at least validate effortless lever cycling with the slicked up Puma 92 using Steve's DVD.

really interested in the puma. i have a winchester 94ae .44mag w a 16' barrell love the gun but want a modle 92 stonger action from what i can gather. is the puma smother than the 94. want another short barreled carbine. dont like the mossbergs winchesters r hard to come by so puma is my next best bet unless im wrong
 
A Marlin might be smoother than a 94. A 94 is a somewhat diffent mechanism than the 92, and grittier in my opinion, be they old or new.
 
My Puma is very slick and smooth and I love it. The only problem I have when I shoot .38 spl brass is it nicks the edge a bit.
I can't imagine it getting any smoother or slicker. I shot Cowboy action with it a couple years but not heavy.
 
The Brownings are better made than the Puma 92's. The Pumas can be slicked up, but they don't have the same attention to detail or fittings. The mag tube on the .44 Puma, for example, is constantly trying to work itself loose.
 
i have several original 92,s and they are tops but i needed something to knock about with. so i got a puma rossi(one with the shi**y cat head on it) in 44 mag and it was nothing but trouble from day one, i swore i would not buy another, but a used rossi 92 short rifle in 44-40 imported by navy arms with no safety came along for a good price, this is one that navy arms finished and put real walnut on along with better sights. i have between 1000-1500 reloads thru it and have not had any trouble at all from day one. my load is 23grs imr 4227 with a 200-240gr hornady xtp bullet. eastbank.

I own Winchester 92 32-20 & 53 25-20, Browning 65 .218 Bee, and Marlin 1894 .44 Mag.

I would list them in order of Quality & smoothness:
1. Browning 92, Winchester 92 special editions, etc. made in Japan.
2. A real original Winchester 92.
3. Marlin 1892.
4. Cimarron, etc., 92 repros made in Italy
5. Puma, Rossi, etc, made in South America.

Yes, the Japense 92's are better made, smoother, and tighter then the old Winchesters.

Has anyone noticed a significant difference between the old Pumas and the new Chiappa-made Pumas? I'm very tempted by a .45 Colt lever gun and Marlin is leaving me out in the cold :(
 
CDNN has some rather pricey winchester model 1892's in their catalogue...I'm trying to convince my wife that we have an odd number of guns (and a prime number at that) so we really need a 92...they havne't been made by browning/winchester x number of years etc. I think I'm wearing her down.
