My experience here in Bulloch county was pretty good. I waited entirely too long to get fingerprinted (like an hour and a half), but the permit itself came back in about two weeks.

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

apparently the delay is being blamed on the full checks being done for all applicants, not just first timers

Dekalb county took i think 60 days, and that included having to go back to get reprinted after the gbi said my prints were unreadable. I was very happy.:)

Hall County has had mine for 70 days now, no sign of a permit. They told me not to call in to check on the status until the 4-5 month mark.... :what:

Other counties, such as around Atlanta, have had outrageous waits. Coweta County currently has a lawsuit on appeal that should be heard soon to resolve this problem.

And yes, the problem is with the Probate Judges that have determined they 'must' use the lengthy background checks instead of the shorter ones (that are outlined in the law!)

Derek, wow small world I'm from Statesboro as well:D It took about 5 weeks for me to get my CCW. Good to see that they got things running faster/smoother i guess. Just thought i would through a shout out to say hi from not all that far away.

Here in Laurens County I had my renewal license in about a week and a half. The first time GA had everyone undergo the full prints and FBI check it took a little longer, but not a lot longer, IIRC.

Our county has a long tradition of supporting sportsmen and supporting and serving honest citizens with firearms . . . and our Probate Court judge is super in this regard!

In Cobb County, my first permit took the full four months. I've had friends in Fulton and Gwinett who've waited as long as six. OTOH, another guy got his in Cherokee in two weeks.

Any truth to the rumor that the state isn't doing renewals? I heard that they're making everyone reapply at the 5-year mark now. If so, this'll be a hassle.

At least they qualify as a NICS check again. For several months they didn't, and I always get the three-day delay on those.

My first one took 117 days, and that was only after I contacted my State Senator who then contacted the County Probate Judge - had the permit 3 days after he called.

My wife's took about 100 days to get.

This is up in Henry county, about 30 miles SW of ATL.

Erik - What I was told at the courthouse window is that there are no quick 'renewals'. I walked away with the impression that renewals have to go through the same checks as a new app.

Mine expires second quarter 08. Why am I thinking that I should be submitting my 'renewal' paperwork around easter 07? :banghead:
