I think it falls (or fell) under U.S. State Dep't Security which is about all I know on the subject.:)

Could be DSS or military. Karzai was guarded by special operations troops for a good while, and may still be.

It's possible security is being provided by Blackwater Security personnel. They've been providing security for the Provisional Coalition Authority (PCA) in Iraq. You remember those four security personnel killed, burned, dismembered, dragged through the streets and hung from a bridge? They were from Blackwater too.

Trust me. If somebody is over there, doing the kind of job that these guys are doing. They ain't no mall ninja.

There are no desert camies, just civillian clothing with a vest and LBE.

Ant Mod, I resemble that remark too. I get paid to expedite the removal of enemies of the United States, protect citizens of the United States, and further the foreign policy of the United States, and do not work under oath to the Constitution, as I once did.

This allows me to QUIT if I do not believe in the government policy under contestation. Is there a problem with that?

buzz_knox,

Karzai was guarded by special operations troops for a good while, and may still be.

Actually, I think they were former operator types working through a civvie subcontractor, DynCorp.

When the attempt was made on his life after his brother's wedding, it was a Seal Team Six operator credited with the kill of the terr.

The guy who saved him before that couldn't have been a Seal Team Six operator, though, because there is no Seal Team Six. He just works in some Development Group.

Sorry. Too much Marcinko in my library, I suppose. Besides, when it went down, he was still reported as a Team Six member, not DevGru personnel.

Uh huh, sure you do toolshed.

The guy was joking, I was joking, dont take things so seriously. Besides that they are mercenaries by the definition. Our freind webster says:

one that serves merely for wages

And how much do these private companys pay?

Toolshed?

I'm going to overlook that, since you've apparently got no idea, but yes, there are plenty of civilians working for the DoD. Sorry if I didn't catch the joking part, I was answering while you two were clarifying. Your earlier remark looked like you had something against "mercenaries" when in fact, by your definition, everyone's a mercenary.

Since you asked, my company starts at around $60k a year, with a 30% differential added for service in a hazardous zone (those are defined by the government, and are basically anywhere that servicepeople are tax free). Companies that work mainly overseas security (usually one year contracts) pay about the same, provide you with a car and a place to stay, but are usually tax free, since you're out of the country for that year. Companies that provide the high speed low drag former operator dudes pay way more, probably up to and including $10000 a month (don't know for sure), but you are planning on being shot at and it's a definite high stress job.

Considering how they want to keep the new Iraqi government alive and how they've done it before, the guys named after the fourth letter of the alphabet are probably involved, or at least former ones.

What remark? When did I ever say anything about mercenaries?

by your definition, everyone's a mercenary.

Not my definition, the dictionary. But if you want to argue and say the dictionary is wrong thats fine with me, take it up with them, I am sure they have been wrong before.
