Needs to be fired.

Now, I thought "Tactical Turkey" was possibly the worst name ever for a firearm. But now I see they have a new line of turkey shotguns called "Turkey Thug." Do you hold the gun sideways?
Who makes this stuff up??

Fired?
They'll probably get a well deserved raise.

Mossberg knows that the more their guns look like movie or video game guns the more they will sell.......witness the "Persuader".

Slap useless but tactically cool features like a bayonet lug, breecher barrels, heat shields or PGO and the generation raised on video games will snap them up.

Wait until you see the "Chainsaw" they exhibited at SHOT Show.:barf:

I know I bought the Mossberg 500 Cruiser because it was tacticool. Sure, I immediately replaced the PGO with a pistol grip w/ stock. Yes, I am part of the video game generation. I even though the Kel-Tec P3AT was a clever name. Yet, I still think Turkey Thug is the worst name I've heard for a weapon in a long time.

After the Roadblocker, Rolling Thunder, and their line of .22 rifles with the huge chevron muzzle break ... you're surprised as anything they'd do?

They're about enough to make a serious user a bit self-conscious.

When I pull out my 500 for a defense drill or shotgun stage, I feel like I have to say, "Yeah, it's a Mossberg ... but not like a 'Mossberg' Mossberg..."

They aught to cut right to the chase and build licensed movie and video game replica guns on a 500 action. Gluing on a huge plastic over-shell with fins and LEDs and sound-effects can't be too far away.

SHOT Show 2012:

Mossberg 500 "Bruce Willis" model
Taurus Apellate Judge single shot..........revolver.

:what:

Hahaha...probably not! :) That said, I do think the "Rolling Thunder" and "Roadblocker" names had a certain cool factor to them. "Turkey Thug"? Not so much.

There appears to be a rash of bad marketing nowadays with these gun manufacturers. S&W's "The Governor" being one of the worst (best?) examples.

When is the screw-on breacher end coming out for the Rampaging Judge, anyway?

*sigh*

I'm VERY happy to see firearms becoming much more widely accepted and appreciated, especially by the younger segments of society.

I'm very distressed to see the "dumbing down" of certain segments of the gun market as hooks and lures to snag the overenthusiastic and impressionable. Guns are fun, but guns are not toys. Oh well. Why fight market forces?

And, yet, the Turkey Thug has some element of practicality in how its built and functions, if the name does not reflect that.

The R.T. and R.B. versions are utterly useless, repulsively crass-market items that should, rightly open their manufacturer to the utter derision of all knowledgeable shooters, regardless of their names.

Amen. Well said!

What, you mean that a muzzle brake on a shotgun is not useful!? Blasphemy, I say! ;) I agree in full that these models are not useful, but the names had a cool factor to them. Well, at least my kids think so. Marketing forces at work...sigh...

At SHOT a couple of us ended up in a conversation about Mossberg's new products.

I disremember who said it, but someone managed to distill Mossberg down to one brilliant phrase:

"Mossberg has decided to base their business model on trolling the rest of the gun industry."

Mossberg, S&W (the dreadful "Governor"), and other reputable firearms manufacturers are clearly setting their sights (pun intended) on the younger shooters out there, mostly the 18-25 crowd. Just take a look at the success of the Call of Duty games. These youngsters, mostly male, like to shoot guns that have cool names and have been completely tricked out. When I went to the NRA Convention in Charlotte, all of the young shooters gravitated towards the showy, marginally useful guns. My own sons, who are relatively knowledgeable shooters, went straight for the Mossbergs. Here's how the conversation went:

"Whoa, Dad, check this out!"
"Yes, son, but do you know how LOUD a muzzle break on a shotgun would be? There's no need for that on a shotgun. It doesn't make sense."
"I know, Dad, but it looks so...COOL!"

(sigh)

You win the thread

Awww, I thought the best was the list someone posted a while back that went something like:

.410 ........... Judge
28 ga. ........ Raging Judge
12 ga ......... Rampaging Judge
10 ga ......... Hemorrhaging Judge

At first I read the 10 gauge as the "Hemorrhoiding Judge", but then that would've been simply ridiculous. Or not.

28 ga. ........ Raging Judge
12 ga ......... Rampaging Judge
10 ga ......... Hemorrhaging Judge

They could just make a punt gun, and call it "Supreme Court Judge"

You know they just signed Jerry Miculek to run a Mossberg in 3-gun

Would that then be called the Raging Cajun Rampaging Hemorrhaging Comp Gun?

O.k. Yes, that is wierd. Can I get a Bell Telephone - branded bluetooth headset to go with that? Maybe some Esso oil filters. I wonder if you have to get them at Woolworth's?
