Why did you buy your AR?

For those of you from this area, I am sure your not aware of the huge influx of zombies into South Central Texas. They coming from all directions.

I needed some protection and still do.

Thats why I bought the AR

I actually did NOT own an AR until all this 2nd term Obama nonsense started. I always knew he was adamantly antigun, even though the sheep believed what he said his first term.

As soon as I saw the writing on the wall (mid December 2012), I immediately started looking for what I consider to be the top tier of ARs (Colt 6920).

As a Libertarian, the best way to encourage me to buy something is the government telling me I can't have it.

I bought mine because I'd like to shoot highpower again when my work schedule allows it and my old Garand is more expensive to run.

Then there is the connection to the rifle I used in the Marine Corps.

It is also a pretty darn good rifle for home defense although my 20" heavy barreled upper with a float tube isn't the handiest.

Since I have a spare lower, I'm thinking of building something M4'ish as a home defense/plinker next. If they don't want me to have one, I know I need one. :)

Got my AR 10 specifically to hunt elk. It will also be used for deer/antelope as well. Still waiting to get my optic and some more ammo for it.

1. For SHTF caused by an out of control gov't
2. To keep a tyranical gov't in check

Looking for a second 6920 when they become available again at a reasonable price

One is none--two is one

Took the words right out of my mouth Omaha

Because after my millitary years it is what I am used to and shoot the best. I also think it is the best modern platform for an all around rifle. The AR15 can be used for every single task you would use a rifle for. From cape buffalo (50 BW or 450 Bushmaster) to P Dogs (204 Ruger) home defense to 3 gun matches to long range shooting it can do it all.

It's fun to shoot. My first gun was going to be a shotgun but then my friend took me out to shoot his AR and zero his Aimpoint PRO. It was first time shooting one and next thing I know I was heading over to my LGS to buy a stripped lower and haven't looked back since. It's easy to clean, use, and shoot. It's also highly versatile when it comes to how anyone can assemble them from long or short barrel length. Also, there are tons on the market so finding parts for repairs should be easy to find. Finally, the aftermarket modifications you're able to do for and AR are endless

Number 1 reason, I wanted one. Number two reason, The Peoples Republik of Kommifornia does not want "we the people" to have them...therefore I WILL have them.

well...

...It was a required item for the LAV classes...

Also the best AntiViolenceEmergencyRescueTool I can still hump...

I had a Saiga conversion for a while. Once I realized reloading for the X39 cartridge is an exercise in futility, I sold it and got my S&W Sport. Lots of reloads downrange.:D

I was tempted to sell it during the panic for a 50% profit, but realized an AR might be a good thing to just keep in the house. It truly is 'America's Rifle' now.

No reason required. I wanted it, so I bought it. Just like I wanted a bunch of other things I bought, but have no reason to own.

I do, because I can.

For its history. No military collection is complete without one. Because it looks nice next to the AKM.
Because it must be the most versatility for the money except for a 12 gauge.

When I started learning about firearms in my teens, I was convinced the AR was the most despicable firearm ever forced on the American military. I mean, I knew my calibers, and .22......? Really? The baddest military in the world is using a .22 caliber rifle? Really? On top of that it used the direct impingement design, one that fouls where it eats, no way! Not for me :barf:

Then I learned that is was basically forced down their throats by bureaucrats who could explain the theory of relativity in their sleep but couldn't tie their own shoes or change a light bulb.

I avoided the AR like the plague, wouldn't touch one or even had the slightest interest in one, my favored platforms were the AK and Garand (aka Garand, M1A, Mini-30). But as I felt it necessary for the larger cartridges to be scoped to get the most out of them I quickly discovered that those rifles didn't make it easy, and the AK simply is not optic friendly in my personal experience.

Then along came the 6.8spc, now this was a REAL caliber, but initially only available in AR platforms and later the Mini-14. But the accuracy issues and Ruger sticking to the initial SAAMI specs turned me away from the Mini's. But there was still hope, I could get my hands on a 6.8 AR with the "more reliable, cooler, cleaner" piston set up, but wait, $500 more for that? Hard to justify.

So I dove into the DI AR history and studied it's design and history and decided that I could give it a chance.....but only in 6.8.

I bought an RRA Mid-Length and swapped the barrel out with an ARP and I must say that this is now my favorite rifle.....EVER. It has not malf'd at all since I've bought it. It is accurate and packs a much bigger punch than the .223.

I haven't found it to be excessively dirty either, even after extended range trips. The A4 flattops make it simple to mount scopes or other optics on it, it is relatively light and ergo-friendly and infinitely modifiable.

But, as much as I don't like the .223, I felt compelled to consider one after observing our current ant-gun atmosphere. My feelings were that there would be more .223 available after a "crisis" than 6.8 and that the .223 would be easier for my female family members to lug around and operate than my 6.8 or other rifles that I owned.

So I purchased a DPMS Lite and have been pleasantly surprised with it, it has a 1:9 twist and prefers 55gr. ammo over all others. So here we are, after all this, I have become an AR convert and frankly quite thoroughly satisfied.

I bought mine simply because i could and my wife gave me the go ahead. that was over a year ago, and at normal prices. i don't shoot mine all that much, especially now since i'm down to 300 rounds of .223.

i toyed with the idea of selling it at the peak of the madness, but didn't. i am glad i did not sell it.

i look at it now as a viable self defense weapon in a really REALLY bad scenario. but i don't go off the deep end. if i had to hit the woods, i'd bring a shotgun and my .357.

but i hold onto my AR15 because of what it symbolizes. our forefathers had what can only be described as primitive rifles, but they fought with everything they had to keep them. they gave up their farms, their families, their wealth, and ran towards the threat against the freedoms they had come to know and love over the decades as a semi-autonomous colony.

had we given them up like the british wanted, we'd still be loyal to the queen.

an AR15 is a 21st century representation of that same desire for freedom. it's no different than the heavy rifles our forefathers carried. i firmly believe the second amendment has nothing to do with hunting. it is entirely about the ability to hold firm to one's freedom. no one needs to fear a private citizen possessing an AR15 (or any long arm for that matter) so long as those in office respect the constitution as it was written. our forefathers wrote the second amendment to ensure we never have to go through what they did. plain and simple.

that is why i am keeping mine.

I got mine right before the fools who elected BHO voted ... I never had any idea that I would own an AR or enjoy it as much as I have ... IT has become my favorite gun to shoot .... that was until the the fools who voted for BHO the first go around ... voted again and now it is hard to find enough ammo to shoot like I would like ... even hard to find enough componants to reload .... Wish I had got it much earlier now...

My wife was an Army Reservist and liked shooting them. So I bought her one as a gift for having our first child. She broke it down, explained it all to me, said she loved me, but really wanted a foot massager. So I bought her a foot massager and I kept the AR, the first of several and one that is now parted out after wearing out the bore and some springs.

Of course, the wife gets to shoot what I have whenever she wants, plus she has a foot massager.

I purchased mine because I wanted one for a long time. I do not have a military or hunting backround. I was target shooting with a friend of mine and just thought it was fun. BUT 6 months there was a home invasion at the end of my block. The intruders manges to shoot everything in the house but the people. They even shoot the dog. I was told first that they used a high powered firearm. So I went out and bought an AR15.

Why did I buy it (them)? Fun, fun, fun. Now the question Im trying to figure out is why the heck did I sell them?!?!? Now Im stuck without one and am unwilling to spend $1500+ on one for panic prices. At least I have the Saiga still.....
