Why do you like guns?

Mechanical fascination. I love the symmetry and simple elegance. Exposure. Growing up, everyone had at least one. Someone mentioned the camaraderie. Most responsible gun owners are really nice folks and a common interest always makes for good company. Military experience but that can go back to exposure. For SD obviously. Though I don't relish the idea I am well prepared for any hotdog. Presently giving serious thought to next year's hunting season. I have rifles to suit the need and I'm about disgusted with the price and quality of store-bought meat. Again the symmetry and elegance marks for the appearance of MOST firearms. Hexxuvalot cheaper than building cars. But I fix em for a living so I get that passion somewhat satisfied at work (and get paid for it!!!). Must be what it's like being in the firearm industry. And safe queens take up a lot less room than garage trophies. Not to mention cheaper. And yes. They are soooooooooooooo much fun to shoot!!!!

I've always liked guns but I got real interested in guns after a lot of my friends went to a public range when I was 18. There was about 10-15 of us. That was the first time I shot an AR and scoped center fire rifle. That's what really got me interested in firearms. I still look back on that day with fond memories!

My interest has grown over the years. Today I like every thing that goes bang and I love stuff that goes boom! Ive learned about the 2a and I'd say my primary focus is firearms that help me keep my freedom. But I like Mosin Nagants, bolt action 22's just as much as like the latest and greatest AR or AK.

Believe it or not, government tyranny rekindled my interest in firearms and it simultaneously threw a refinery-full of gasoline on that fire. I'll leave it at that.

At the same time, I took a strong interest in reloading which has proven highly rewarding in its own right.

Dear THR:
Why do you like guns? What is your primary interest in weapons and what sparked it, in case you picked up this lobby recently?

Hunting when I was young is what sparked it for me. What drew me to guns once I was grown is the mechanical nature of firearms. I love machinery.

The ever daunting challenge of trying to shoot well is what keeps me interested in it today.

Those are the "wants" of my history of gun interests. The needs are different and are solely for self protection insurance, if you want to call it that.

I've liked guns since I was little and my Grandpa taught me about shooting his snubby 38 while he held my hands. Next year was a 410. Then a 16 ga. Then Dad's 357 Ruger GP101. Then at 22 I bought a Mosin Nagant M44....and from there on started having guns of my own. I would have sooner but I was in college.

My Grandpa used his for hunting and plinking. My dad taught me about self defense, and home defense.

There was never a mystery or forbidden fruit aspect of them. I knew what they were for, and did not think of them as toys to show my friends.

I really enjoy the history of gun developemnt and their designers. The best guns were designed to not only be functional and of a high quality, but beautiful to the point of being artful. I enjoy hunting and range shooting, but I am also content to just sit at my bench cleaning and oiling on of my weapons. It's a soothing way to pass the time.

I just like guns, for several reasons... It all started with 22lr's at boy scout camp, then collecting a couple bb guns, college major was Law Enforcement, collected more guns, did some side work for a police force armorer, life plan change to religious studies didn't affect my gun collection, raising children did... collection grew and shrunk numerous times as funds varied. The passion never went away and my wife was ok with guns being "the other woman" in my life. Guns are like tools, one more to get the job done right... I have too many socket sets and wrenches that I would trade off in a minute.
Besides collecting guns is way cheaper than collecting wives.

SD/HD is my priority.

I love it as a recreational pastime because it's something I can work at on my schedule, solo or socially, and I can work at it at home, for $0. It challenges me, and rewards me for dedication.

Guns are mechanical marvels. The succesfull designs do the task they are supposed to do with very few parts.

Having guns is a reminder that our society still has hope. As long as the gov lets a citizen own guns, that citizen more probably has some trust in the gov as well. Remember, in most parts of the world guns are not a Right but a priviledge.

And shooting is the second most fun thing to do.
This.
