Why is the Ruger LCP so hard to find?

Plenty of P3ATs available, that would be my choice of the two simply because of Kel-tec's outstanding customer service and the lower demand for the P3AT. Though I would love to own one of each just because I like ruger's stuff.

At RSR Distributors back at SHOT Show, the P3AT was their number 2 selling gun. The Taurus Judge was number one. The rep couldn't answer why, saying people liked what they like. Ruger probably put a dent in those numbers a bit for KT, but it just forces competition. Nothing like imitation being a sincere form of flattery.

Mine is on lay-a-way right now. Had to wait about a month and a half before I got the call that it was in. There was a waiting list that I was lucky to get on back in early April. The last I heard my dealer was getting in a couple every 2 weeks but I don't know if that is completely accurate. I paid $270 which I think is quite reasonable considering the demand.

I wrote Ruger a letter, kinda begging. My response was that they added a second production line and are shipping 500 per day. That's right, 500 per day. I'm on a list at the Fin in Ashland, Ohio. Anyone no of a gun shop around Dayton, Columbus, Cinncinnati that has them?:)

vandave: how about 550 per day now, one every 52 seconds, from the Prescott newspaper...Takes time but we will all get one My dealer has not seen one since they came out. I stilldhave a standing order for one, I founddone at a smalldgun show many months back paid $300 for it, goes bang every time. Like a harley, worth the wait..

(1) To maintain a price where it's profitable enough to recap development and initial production costs, it's wise to limit manufacturing and distribution.

(2) A new product also creates liabilities that have to be addressed. Keeping the introductory distribution small limits the cost of repairs or replacements while the product is being refined in the market.

(3) If the demographic/marketing research proves incorrect and the product fails, discontinuing it has less of a negative effect on profitability and reputation if there are fewer units to attend to.

Hey Guys,

I usually post in the reloading forum but saw this thread and thought I'd chime in.

I live in west central Minnesota and was was out for a joy ride on my cycle about a month ago and saw the Ruger/Sprignfield semi at one of the local gun shops and stopped to see it. Wouldn't ya know they had brought a dozen LCP's with them and I got one for $279.

My only problem is it is now in my wife's purse. I'm now looking for another one and waiting again for who knows how long.

Nice gun. It is easier to hit accurately than I thought it would be. When you reload for it the bullet needs to be held in the case quite tightly I found out.

It is worth the wait!

Cabela's in Lehi Utah got a shipment of 40 yesterday. I picked one up for their retail price of $300. However I did have $46 in points on my Cabela's card to put down on it. Fortunately they also had one extra magazine left when I was there.

Plenty of P3ATs available, that would be my choice of the two simply because of Kel-tec's outstanding customer service and the lower demand for the P3AT.

Yeah, I have owned four Kel-Tecs, and in spite of their "outstanding customer service" I've sold three of them. Put it another way, I've had to use their "outstanding customer service" on every single one of the four so far, some more than once.

Want to buy the last remainining artifact? 1st Gen P3AT, "pretty reliable" after F&B...at least much moreso than my 2nd Gen P3AT, my P32 or my P-11? If interested, pm me.

Oh, by the way, I won't carry it, or buy another K-T, period. Four strikes, you're out.

I'm on my dealer's wait list for an LCP...at a price well under $300. I am about number 25 on the list, right now. I've seen/handled one at a local gun show, and while I'm not ready to pay $399 or $349 or ...let's see what they are asking this month... I will certainly try one at the sub-$300 price point.
