At my school, there are no guns allowed anywhere on campus (even dorms or cars) unless they are going to or leaving from the lock box at the police station.

Is there any good reason for this?

Yep ...... CONTROL!!! If all who wished were able to carry then the outside chance of someone doin something stupid would probably be controlled/negated in an instant .... instead of which the Columbine type incident could still happen, all over again.

Someone sufficiently determined could still sneak in a gun ... or suitable weapon .... and then who is to control that?? By time any cops arrived it'd all be over and then just a need for body bags.

Crazy .... where is the logic? Oh I forgot, we are all supposed to be ''PC'' now! :(

no reason, just misguided belief that those who would do harm are going to obey rules and signs.
Assaults have been stopped by law-abiding citizens with handguns at schools and colleges. Many more might have been prevented if responsible adults had not been dis-armed.:banghead:

I think its' just so they can say it's safe when the parents want to send their kids off. Of course I've still got mine on me, I just don't get caught.

I'd be more than happy to leave mine at home if they got all the guys with toss aways and no permits to give theirs' up first.

As everyone else here has said, from the point of view of good and moral people, the answer is an emphatic NO!

From the point of view of diabolical sheepleherders, the reasons are manifold.

They all boil down to sacrificing the individual on the demonic alter of the masses. For the sake of controling said masses.

Period.

The normal "reason" I have seen is that allowing firearms leads to accidents, and dampens "academic freedom" on the part of the staff.

Of course, we all know the only "academic freedom" being dampened is that of conservative professors....

Man, I don't even think that's an option around these parts. People would poo a black twinkie and die if they knew what was in my closet right now, and that's just a small portion of what I own!

Yes. It's to create the illusion that citizens with the power of self-defense are aggressive and dangerous. And that college professors, with their heavy-caliber ideas and gradebooks, are not. It's all about control, as always.

Move to Colorado, turn 21, get CHP, forget about any silly university policy due to preemption.

When our new laws were being debated in the legislature, the university and the student government tried to make a big deal out of the notion that people carrying guns would stifle academic freedom. Apparently people like me are going to use our guns to make points in the classroom; agree with me or else. But of course that would be illegal whether or not CCW was, as brandishing, assault, etc.

Anyway, the good guys won in CO. And there are other states with similar laws, like UT, I believe.

Magical thinking for one reason. Shared delusion is another. Both quite legitimate to the thinker though not quite so for the dispassionate observer.
