Isn't a public bus the most public of places?

Also isn't a bus the exact type of place a citizen may need protection?

Will someone bring litigation against this?

Gun Transport Rules To Change With Concealed Carry Law

Uncased, Loaded Guns Can Be Carried On A Car Seat

Updated: 4:50 pm CDT October 27, 2011

While the rules about carrying guns in a car have changed, they will not change on Madison Metro buses.

"We have a long-standing policy in place where weapons are not allowed on buses. And come Nov. 1, when the new law goes into effect, weapons will still not be allowed on buses," said Mike Rusch, of Metro Transit.

If anyone is caught carrying a firearm on a city bus, the driver will call police. Guns are also disallowed at bus shelters and transfer points.

Acording to what I can find, Madison Metro Transit is a subsideriary of the City of Madison. It's a public service, not a private one, so they're going to run smack into the preemption laws in WI. Who wants to be the test case?

(2) Except as provided in subs. (3) and (4), no political subdivision may enact an ordinance or adopt a resolution that regulates the sale, purchase, purchase delay, transfer, ownership, use, keeping, possession, bearing, transportation, licensing, permitting, registration or taxation of any firearm or part of a firearm, including ammunition and reloader components, unless the ordinance or resolution is the same as or similar to, and no more stringent than, a state statute.

(3)(a) Nothing in this section prohibits a county from imposing a sales tax or use tax under subchapter V of chapter 77 on any firearm or part of a firearm, including ammunition and reloader components, sold in the county.

(b) Nothing in this section prohibits a city, village or town that is authorized to exercise village powers under s. 60.22 (3) from enacting an ordinance or adopting a resolution that restricts the discharge of a firearm.

I find it funny they say they're going to call the police. What crime exactly are they going to claim you're commiting? Tresspassing requires that they ask you to leave first.

Too bad...this video seems to be proof that bad things can happen on busses:what::

Stupid rule, but most people who can afford a $500 gun, can also afford a $3000 car and don't have to ride the bus.

Wut?
So being broke (or just practical, in some cases) negates the inherent right to self-defense with effective tools?
Did you ever consider that some people take the bus for more reasons than not having a car?

No gas, no insurance, no car payment ... there was a time when my transportation expenses (for two people) were $80/month plus an occasional cab fare, compare to the cost of keeping a PV in Honolulu and suddenly it looks pretty damn good, the same applies in most major cities with good public transit, I honestly don't know how Madison's PT rates.

-cheaper
-no parking nonsense
-nap on the way to work
-read a book on the way to wherever
-these days, you can dink around on THR on your smartphone if you're taking the bus/train instead of driving

... seriously, sometimes taking your pickumup truck isn't the only way to get around, and for people in an urban setting, public transit just makes more sense than sitting in traffic jams. Maybe you need your vehicle for everyday transportation living out in your undisclosed location - but sometimes I don't WANT to take a vehicle somewhere (although living out in semi-rural Ohio makes that a rare event these days)
Not everyone takes their own car everywhere, and you can't set up the world for people with PVs only.

Business owner: "we don't let none of them GUNZ in here, buddy, just put it in your car"
Employer: "you're perfectly safe here at work, you don't need that scary stabby thing, just put it in your car"
Mad-town city council "those stupid lower-class schlubs don't need GUNZ, we'll just ban them on the buses and the drivers will be able to detect the evil GUNZ and call po-po"
All of these are foolish statements - banning guns is generally unenforceable, unethical, and done for poorly-thought-out reasons.

I didn't say that.

I said it is a stupid rule, but that it probably won't hassle many people.

Fatdave, I see you aren't from WI, so you wouldn't know that Madison is a liberal dump, picture a college campus in the most liberal part of California. The city of madison is banning guns everywhere, buses aren't a big deal there. The extremely poor who are forced to ride the bus, and the liberals who live there, will likely not care too much about these rules, which is why Madison will get away with it.
