Happy Anniversary To All My Fellow WI Concealed Carry Licensees!

I ran into 1 issue when I renewed my license & want to post a "heads-up"

My original license was "good" until Nov 1016.
My renewal form came in July 2016.
I renewed immediately & noticed I lost a few months, as my new license expires in July 2021 (5 years).

I called the WI Dept of Justice on this.

They said current WI law states the license CANNOT be valid for a period of over 5 years.
Had they made mine valid thru the original date (plus 5 yrs for the new license) it would have been valid for a period of over 5 years.
can't do that in WI, so you may want to wait until closer to your expiration date to renew.

I hope this makes sense.

We were told that when I took my MN carry class.

Renew just before expiration or lose the time you renew early.

Thank you. My license is expiring soon. I'll check with my state to see if they have the same rule.

I just renewed mine and forgot about that until I received the new one in the mail. And it only took 2 weeks to get the new one.

In Minnesota, if you renew before the permit's expiration dare, the permit is renewed for 5 years after the date your old permit expires. In MN, you can renew up to 3 months before the old permit expires.

I renewed as soon as the reminder came in the mail in August. doesn't bother me, I'll renew when they send the reminder in May or June of 2021.

So basically you guys are willing to risk some time without a valid permit due to a delay, lost in mail, paperwork issue, work overload by the issuing department, etc. just to save a month or two in 5 years??? Seriously??

.

Yeah I don't get it either, I got my renewal notice a while ago and it states to renew as soon as possible to reduce delays in processing. As most people got their carry permits around 5 years ago, there are a lot of people needing to renew.

Same here. Original permit in November. Received a renewal in July and lost 4 months.

At least the renewal cost was cheaper than the original permit. :cuss:

I think I know what the problem really was, your permit was 1000 years out of date.
