hey guys,
im looking into restoring to 100% a 1911. im thing of a colt any others i should consider? im more into newer 1911 personaly, but in the last few months i have found myself wanting a true blue ww2 era 1911. im a hobbiest at best, and i dont have a lot of tools to work with, just the basic files and gauges. should i get a complete gun and focus on resortation or get a slide/frame combo and fill it with parts.

thanks guys.

I suppose by Remington you mean Remington Rand, the typewriter company. Remington UMC (the arms company) didn't make 1911's in WWII.

I'd start with a matching frame and slide from any WWII 1911a1 maker. You can still find WWII era parts for fairly cheap. The parts won't be numbered correctly, but you can still cobble together a mixmaster that is fairly authentic and fun to shoot.

did not know that, ill have to edit my post. see im a little green to older 1911's. and see thats what im going for. the old beautifull look of a classic 1911 with the function of today that i can shoot and enjoy looking at

Just a fair warning. WWI-II era 1911s are extremly collectible espacially in unmessed with conditions, often fetching over $1000 easily. To refinish and add parts onto one would not only turn an 1000+ pistol into a $400 shooter the curse of the military firearm collector God would be upon you.

My advice, get a Springfield or RIA GI model

Well, the parts are relatively plentiful. When you get them all together, give them a nice parkerizing bath so they match and everything should look fairly authentic.

Agree with addict.
A real USGI 1911 or 1911A1 has a lot of collector interest and dollar value, even if well worn, as long as it has not been messed with.

If you want one to work on and shoot, either get one that has already been messed with in some way, ruining its collector value, and try to restore it to USGI appearance, or buy a new knockoff which I call "imitation army surplus" and work on it to make it more closely resemble USGI.
