I am thinking about getting a rifled barrel for my 870. Would lead shot or lead buck shot damage the rifling?

It won't damage the barrel, BUT.......

First the bore will lead BADLY, and the lead will be extremely difficult to get out.

Second, you will get no pattern.

The shot column will be "swirled" as it comes out the muzzle and this will cause the shot to scatter in a donut-like circle with a big hole in the middle.

This means any hits on the target actually aimed at will pure luck.

In other words, when firing a shot at a target, you may MISS completely from the scattering of the shot.

Bottom line is, rifled shotgun barrels are for shooting sabot slugs ONLY.
