IIRC the Winchester 670 was the economy version of the post '64 model 70 actions. Thus it is a "push feed" that doesn't hold the cartridge with the extracor hook as it feeds it into the chamber. The post '64 actions were cheaper to manufacture, and at the same time they went to stocks with impressed checkering, which added to the aura of economy. Later models of the post '64 action added a bolt guide to smooth the function of the action, something which was built into the older design with the Mauser style of extractor. If it's in good condition, you should get a lifetime of service out of this rifle. Don't worry that it's not a collector's item, take it out and have a good time!
