lol...there is a referring link on that same thread back to this thread.
And as I wrote over there in the SW forum, Winchester (Olin) is a very responsive company to deal with. If there is a problem with their product, contact them.

I had some defective Winchester 9mm white box ammo years ago. E mailed their corporate office and they were very accommodating. Sent a call tag and picked it up at my door. inspected it and sent me a coupon for a new box. Might want to try contacting them and get it replaced..

It's under Olin: Click Winchester for the e mail

Winchester .44 Mag brass.

Last year I bought two bags of Win. new brass in .44 Mag. The bag was factory sealed. I loaded up, I think two or three 50 round boxes with Hornady 180gr. XTP's. Did not notice until at the range-shot a few, and the cases came out of my SuperRedHawk split. A large crack about 3/8" down from the mouth. Checked all unfired rounds, and about 1/2 of them were split. I dis-assembled the remaining rounds, bagged up the new/split brass, and sent them back to Winchester with a letter. Around 6 months later Win. sent me two new bags of .44 Mag. brass with a letter of apology. I believe that it was a heat treat problem, not sure, they would not say. They did replaced the brass, and that's all I wanted.:D;)

I'll just sort through it and see what I can salvage. If it's really bad I'll send it back.

Thanks for the contact info.

I'll update you guys on what happens on this. I've been in contact with the dealer (who unceremoniously dumped the problem on Winchester and washed their hands of the situation based on Winchester's initial response--see below.) and have been playing "phone tag" with Winchester Tech Services.

The initial response from Winchester was "We consider a 44 special case to be within spec if the length is 1.141-1.156". Therefore, we consider the product that you bought within specification."

To which I replied "Great! So, since the picture I sent you shows that the brass is 1.136" at its shortest, you're acknowledging that the brass is OUT of spec, and I'll assume that you made a typo when you said that you consider the product "within specification."

1hr later a customer service rep called me, but I missed the call. I'll update you guys as soon as I know something new!

Hello-

I just chamfered and deburred a 100 ct. bag of Winchester .223 brass; for
use in my Colt and Rock River AR-15's. I encountered only one case with a
deformed case mouth; but several had small dings (dents, if you will ~?) in
the case body. The bag says it was manufactuered by Olin, here in the USA.

I guess I will make me a small wooden dowel for future use on .223 cases~!

I would give them a call or email and see what they have to say. I have bought Win brass in the past and it has been fine. Probably just a bad lot.

That being said, on others reccommendations I have bought some STARLINE brass in .357 and .44 and have been very happy so far.

Good luck

Jesse My Friend-

As far as I'm concerned, this is RESOLVED~! I will be using my RCBS
1500 ChargeMaster Combo; but checking it carefully with an RCBS
balance-beam scale. However, I do feel better from the information
complied here. Many thanks too everyone who replied~!;) :D
