Winchester Model 70 age?

I was poking about one of the local gun shops and came across a Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 Springfield on the used rack. I've been looking for a suitable back-up rifle for my Rem. 700 (also in -06) for a Canadian trip next year. I took a chance and put it on layaway at the agreed on price of $319. It is a sporter model, blued, composite stock with the W stamped on it, 24" barrel.

My problem is finding out an approx. date of manufacturing. It seems records for these rifles are the best kept secret in the industry. Serial number is G2200xxx. Anyone have one in the same range they bought new and remember when that was? Thank you in advance for any info you can provide.

From what I have gathered, 1975. The 'G' was started after a federal law that passed in 1968. Given the number of 2,200,XXX, that puts it in the range used for 1975.

This is a 7 number series, I think '75 from what I've seen ended with G1235041, this would be a much newer rifle than that, some 985,000 (by number) later. It does seem that serial numbers may have started and stopped at rather odd intervals. I'm sure it isn't an FN made rifle, I'm guessing mid-'90s.
