I just bought a new Winchester model 70 30-06 and am looking for a replacement stock with a detachable box magazine. Am I wishing too hard? This going to be my personal sniper competition rifle.

McMillan is at www.mcmfamily.com May be your only bet. Hogue made a few for short actions, but I've never seen one for a long action. McMillan will build almost anything you want.

The stock and the trigger guard are two different parts...you can get a magazine trigger guard; but they ain't cheap for 70's...probably more than a used Mcmillan stock...

Mcmillan is a great stock, but for something cheaper try HS Precision or Bell and Carlson.

HS and B&C don't make stocks for detachable mag guns. Very few are made for short actions. Even fewer for long actions. This is probably going to have to be a pure custom. McMillan or Brown Precision may be the only options.

Ouch!

ok now I have the stock I want picked-out, next question. If my od of my barrel is 0.597" what muzzle-brake could I put on it? And what barrel could I replace mine with if I have to change it?

Sunny Hill Enterprises makes a DBM assembly avail. at MidWay but it lists for $438 and is special order (steel in the white). Doesn't specify if it comes with the mag. or not, nor does S.H.'s website.

You don't want a muzzle-brake on a "sniper" rifle.
