I understand that the term "Winchester" is used by military pilots to mean "out of ammunition". Does anybody have any idea as to the origin of the term? I was wondering if it has anything to do with Winchester firearms ...

Well, I had never heard that before. But I never flew in the military.

I just asked one of my crashpad roommates about it. He said that the term "Winchester" is correct, but he did not know the origin.
