Wolff magazine spring for Rem 1100--How long?

I recently bought a Remington 1100 Tac-2 shotgun. It is a 12-gauge with an 18-inch barrel and 6+1 capacity. As I've been trying it out with various loads, I've encountered a few malfunctions that have consisted of the next round only making it halfway out of the magazine tube. I figured I'd drop in a new follower and a Wolff spring, which I've seen recommended for this sort of issue. I have a Nordic Components follower, and the Wolff spring is a general-purpose, extra-power, 40-inch 12-gauge spring. My question is simply this--how long should the Wolff spring be trimmed to to fit my shotgun? Again, this is a 6+1 setup. Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't know the actual measurement, or number of coils.

Just put it in and keep trimming until you can get all 6 shells in it.

Thanks for the input, RC. Trial and error may be what I have to go with, but I was hoping someone had some firsthand experience and could give me an idea of the spring length so that I don't have to trim one coil at a time until it works.

If I remember right the Wolff unit has a different pitch and wire size. I am betting the follower makes more difference than the spring, too, assuming you had a longer spring installed with the extension.
