Woman Shot in Local Church

For all of you who don't think people should carry in church. This happened at a time other than the Sunday worship service, but it still happened in a church. In a related article, her father stated she had bi-polar disorder, so maybe some of you will say she should not have had a gun anyway. That is not the point, although some of you will invariably miss it. The point is that bad guys can strike anywhere.

As a side note, I carry in church, our pastor knows it, as well as some of the congregation. In the past month or so I have been approached by several of the ladies, asking me to take them shooting. Of course, Mrs. Plinker will accompany us!

A church in upper Bucks County became a crime scene Wednesday after a woman doing volunteer office work was fatally shot inside.

State police called the shooting in Springfield Township a ''suspicious death'' but released few details. Cpl. Timothy Mills said police were called about 1 p.m. to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2170 Route 212. They had made no arrests late Wednesday.

The Rev. Gregory Shreaves told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the church sexton found the woman and called police. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Fountain Hill, where she died Wednesday night.

Shreaves declined to give the woman's name, but said she was in her 40s and lived in Hellertown.

Sandy Rehrig, a church leader, told the Inquirer that the woman was a member of the congregation for about a year. She was a member of the choir and of a group at Trinity that makes and donates clothing and blankets to children and knits socks and helmet liners for American soldiers.

State police from the Dublin barracks said Troop M, the Major Case Team and Bucks County detectives are investigating and that more information would be released after the woman's autopsy. They did not release the woman's name or details about what led to the shooting.

Troopers had the church cordoned with police tape. They had a dark-color, compact sedan taken away on a flatbed truck about 8:15 p.m.

Richard Hari, who lives at 2199 Route 212, down the block and across the street from the church, said he does maintenance at a building directly across from the church and noticed several police vehicles arriving around 1 p.m. Troopers approached him and asked if he knew anything about a shooting. Hari said he did not.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran sits in Springfield's Pleasant Valley section. Homes are spaced far apart and there are no sidewalks.

According to the church's Web site, the congregation was founded in 1751 and got its own building in 1763. The congregation still meets there, though the building has been through extensive modifications over the years.

The neighborhood is normally quiet, but things are changing, Hari said. ''It's getting scary,'' he said.

We have a "security detail"that patrols the parking lot during services,but they're not armed(that I knowof)..but it's a start....I may be the only one carrying most times....I guess I should bring more ammo.

So, the article managed to completely ignore what happened. The woman was shot, but there was no mention of an assailant. Was it self inflicted?
