I've had an old double barrel that I learned to shoot with. Dad gave it to me when I was about 12. She has provided pats, rabbits, squirrel and deer to embelish our meals over the last 50 years.

I'm wondering abour her history. She's a Ranger, 20ga. double barrel. Serial # is stamped into the forestock, on the metal clamping apparatus that holds the forestock to the barrel and on the metal bed the barrel rests upon when not broken open.
Ser. #X36533. Pat. Apr 20, 1915 stamped on the right side of the barrel and "certified 20 ga." stamped on the top left barrel. I think I remember dad saying he bought her at Sear and Roebuck and it was one of the first shotguns they sold that did not have external hammers.

Anybody know anything about this critter?

My library is meager but I did find that some of the Ranger models sold by Sears were made by the Eastern Arms Company.

Eastern Arms is a trade name used by Iver Johnson on shotguns and other firearms made for Sears & Roebuck of Chicago in the 20'30's. There is a term used for these guns, and that is, "Hardware Gun." Made by a major mfg for a hardware store, and individual or a special distributor.

For kicks I googled Ranger Shotguns and found a page from a Sears catalogue that had the single trigger model shown. They also offered a double trigger model, which is what mine is. Eastern Arms was the manufacturer.

They sold for $16.45.

Thanks for your help rupestris.

$16.45!!!!:what:

You can thank me by selling me that shotty. I'll give ya double the MSRP:p

Kidding of course. That ones a keeper.
The 15th is Tuesday. You might want to take 'er out for a stroll through the deer woods this season.

I actually killed my first deer with that old shotgun. If that old girl could talk she would have a lot of great stories about our escapades since I was 12, especially bunny and ring neck hunting.

You wish on the offer to buy. :neener:

Good luck on opening day. :)
