Hey all!

I was just wondering how many of you gentleman and ladies would choose an AR15 as your only rifle.

Not, which rifle would be your only rifle, but could an AR15 be your only rifle?

Assuming I can have different uppers, absolutely. Assuming I'm limited to one upper, yes.
Multiple uppers, 20" .30 Rem AR and 18" 223 Wylde.
Single upper, 16" .300 Blackout.

Yes, ARs are flexible and it's dead easy to change configurations.

Pretty much all my shooting is paper or steel, so 556 is just fine. If I needed a cartridge with more power, I'd go with 6.8 SPC, which only requires a different bolt, barrel, and mags.

I don't even like AR-15's but it *could* easily be my only rifle. It's deficiencies are such that it would present no great problem for me. Personally I would select something else.

No. You have range, power, and legal restrictions.

There are different tools for different tasks, but a good bolt-action in the .308-.300 Winchester Magnum power range is as close to the "one rifle" as you can get.

Seems to me that everyone should be answering "yes," since the OP specifies "could" rather than "would." Given the choice between an AR15 and nothing, then of course, "yes." But how realistic is that, and what does it prove? The oft asked question of what one rifle would one chose, if limited to one, is far more interesting, and even, if only remotely, realistic.

Incidentally, the thread header asks "would," while the OP specifies "could." Bait and switch? :)

Right now, my AR is MY only rifle. But then I have 2 shotguns, and a pile of sidearms. I am still trying to decide on a .30cal choice. 300blk upper (or complete carbine) vs. compact .308 bolt gun. But to answer the OP, yes.

Although a few years ago, when I harken back to our forefathers who probably started off with only a single 20 ga./.62 smoothbore flintlock or such over the mantle, I would have said no. But the closer we get to a time where the limitation of the post is more and more possible the answer is absolutely "yes."

Yeah, I noticed the "could/would".

If I had no interest or need to hunt, and magically knew I'd never take shots past 300 meters, yes, it could.

If I had to choose one, (I dont want to) ......

I would take my 6.8, great midsize hunting round to over 300 Yds
(Not the optimal, but some people on 6.8forum have even taken elk with it)

Does well in close situations as well

The 223 is good, but you lose a bit vs 6.8 hunting

Nope. Semi-automatic rifles are not permitted for hunting in PA, so I have an inexpensive Marlin 30-30 lever action to fill that space. If things went to pot and hunting regulations along with them, I would be comfortable with only my AR.

Sure. It might not be the best choice for each application, but it will perform more than well enough in almost all applications.

It might fall short for anti material.

Well, taking the question to mean "would being limited to an AR as your only rifle fit most/all of your personal rifle needs?"

For me, yes. I don't hunt, but if I NEEDED to, a 5.56 will harvest a deer sized animal. For defense, sure thing. My AR shoots flatter with less chance of OP.
I like all kinds of guns, but of all the rifles I currently own, my AR is the best all 'rounder in the cabinet. It certInly can fit all of MY rifle needs.

Well the way the question is written the answer has to be No. I own other rifles.
To answer the question of whether an AR would be my only rifle I'd have to say no as well.
I think I could do more work with a BDL 270 or 30-06.

Yes. It could. And it would.

If I could only have one gun, it would be a Glock 26.

If I could only have two, they would be a Glock 26 and a nice AR, such as my Colt 6920.
