This ain't gonna happen where I live, as least not for a long while.

But as a gun owner, it wouldn't bother me as much as it would if I were not.

I can't believe the non-gun owners are not throwing a bigger fit over that crap going on with the paper in New York. You might as well paint a target on their homes.

Everyone should be throwing a bigger fit!

They not only told every criminal which houses to steal guns from.

They also told every criminal which houses didn't have guns to stop them from stealing everything else.

I would not be OK with it, but it sounds like they have little legal recourse. In other states, I think that information is protected from FOIA requests in the name of public safety, but I could be wrong.

I would not necessarily be concerned for myself, but as a principle, I worry about it. For example, some individuals seek out permits for either owning or carrying weapons because of issues like domestic abuse and stalking.

I think it would be pretty perverse if a woman (or man, but really typically a woman) was to seek out a means for self defense against an abusive spouse, and in the process of doing that, actually made her current address a matter of public record.

I would not be ok with that.

I would move out of the state. As someone who lives in MA, this has come up in the legislature over the past few years. It occurred to me that I would pull the trigger on my planned move to southern Maine if my name and address was published the same way as sex offenders are.

I feel similarly. I am known as a guy that likes guns, but But as a principle, this is deeply disturbing.

On the other hand, in my neck of the woods, they would use far less paper and ink (or electrons) to simply publish who does not own a gun.

After submitting several pages of paperwork, four character references, signatures notarized, finger prints, mug shots, interview, 6-month wait, and fees paid, what I legally own in the privacy of my home is nobody's damn business. I live in NY and have had a pistol license since the age of 18.

When you really think about it, its kinda scary that these lists exist at all.

There is no purpose to publish the names, other than to try to make bad things happen to gun owners.

That is what the intent had to be, and that is what is disturbing . It is a hate crime . I hope it backfires on them and they end up paying for their hate .

Personaly, I don't care, but I can see where it would be a problem for some .

Of course I'd be upset. I've earned CCW in a state where open carry is legal. I have the advantage of surprise, now.
And how about using the anti's argument against them? We've all heard that "most guns are stolen during burglaries." Well now they've enabled the crooks, those who are looking for weapons. Why don't they publish everyone who has diamonds over 5 carats at home? :cuss:

A 5 carrat diamond is likely to be a fairly good safe, publish those places with over 1 carrat (your typical $3,500+ diamond) which is much less likely to be stored in a serious safe.

I wouldn't be comfortable, but it has already happened in TN and published by a Nashville paper a few years back.

Those lists include only people that have a carry permit. Not all gun owners.

yes Id be irate about it. It means case my house, wait till im off at work, then break in and steal what I have. no safe is gonna stop them when they would expect most gun owners to own a safe, they will just come prepared

Pat M:

You had to go through all of that BS to own a gun in NY?

Wow, that just sucks.

I don't advertise that I have guns. I don't put NRA stickers on my vehicles. I sure don't want to be published.

Yes sir.....current wait time in Nassau County Long Island is 12 to 15 months. They say they are busy. And we are only allowed to carry concealed to and from the range.
