Like the title says would you trade a Glock 26 for a Milspec Springfield Armory Ultra Compact?

I bought the Glock 26 for CCW, but could never get it to conceal properly. I now have a Kahr PM9 that is much smaller and easier to carry, so my Glock 26 sits in the safe most days. I do carry it on occasion when wearing a suit or something similiar, but for the most part it's a safe queen.

On the other hand I already own a Sprinfield Armory Champion, which has the 4" bbl instead of the 3.5" bbl that the Ultra has. I really like the Champion, but have never actually shot the Ultra.

The Ultra and the Glock will have the same length overall, with the Ultra having a longer grip. I would occasionally try to CCW the Ultra if I get it, but not sure how often I would.

The kicker here is that both Glocks and Springfield Armory handguns are hard to get in this state so it's not so simple as just saving up to get another one of either of these handguns.

Your thoughts?

If the Glock is just sitting there anyway - and U have a chance to shoot it beforehand to make sure it works fine (many of these tiny 1911 have issues and are not reliable), then sure. I'd trade it.

I have a friend that is 5'4" tall and weighs 130 lbs and has absolutely no problem carrying his Glock 26 in an IWB holster for concealed carry. Maybe you should look at different holsters instead of trading pistols.

I'm 6-2 and weight 225 lbs. I typically wear Levi 550 relaxed fit jeans and I've been trying to carry the G26 using a CTAC IWB rig. For whatever reason whenever I wear this setup it bulges and just screams gun. At least in my mind. Either that or I have a collostomy (sp?) bag. I gave up carrying it unless I was wearing a coat. I ended up getting the Kahr PM9 and I pocket carry that daily. Since I never carry it and for whatever reason I've had this 1911 bug bothering me, I thought this might be a good trade.

Sounds like they have some feeding problems though going by some of these posts.

I'd say the trade makes sense from the standpoint of value ... Out here, anyway, used Glocks are plentiful and relatively cheap to come by ... good quality used 1911s, on the other hand, are harder to find and the asking price is always steeper.

I never had a problem carrying nor concealing the Glock 23, even IWB in a horsehide Kramer #3 (not exactly a thin holster). However, I do believe -- for some of us -- even a full-size 1911 conceals better than the compact and even sub-compact Glocks.

And, for the record, I've two excellent SA Micro-Compacts -- the 3-inchers -- that are stellar performers, accurate and totally reliable.

I'm not a big fan of Glocks but I don't think I would trade off my G26.
I am, coincidentily, a big fan of 1911s but one of the prior posters statement is right on the money. The small 1911s are just not as reliable as the full size versions.

However, the Glock G26, will run reliably for a long, long time with little or no maintainence. While I love my 1911s as range guns they are not as reliable
as a Glock so for a carry piece I'd keep the G26.

Nope, but that's just because I wouldn't have a Glock in the first place. Get the Ultra!

No.. The Glock 26 and S&W 642 are the two guns that I will never trade or sell..IMO, them little 45 ACPs aren't as reliable as the G26...

If I were you I WOULD, because:
#1 you already own and like your Springfield 1911, this would have the same operating system and the same potent caliber.
#2 they CAN be made to work if it doesn't, but prolly will with ball anyway;)
#3 Yeah I bought a Glock 27 thinking it would be the end all CCW gun, it wasn't:scrutiny: and an Officer model 1911 is pretty dang close to being IT!
#4 I kept my 27 for my Wife's bedside gun:cool: a role which it is really good at!

Maybe. If you get a chance to shoot the SA and it suits you, yes...my only concern is w/ the potential loss in reliability :scrutiny:

The only advantage I see with the Officer-sized 1911s over the Glock is that when (not if) the Officer jams, it will make a better club than the Glock would, since it is all steel.

I don't doubt that there are compact 1911s that are reliable, I just haven't seen one yet.

I absolutely hate glocks even though I have had to carry them in the past. Besides all the issues I have with Glock, if you cant conceal it effectively than you should definitely trade it for something that is a single stack. I find the 1911 is more accurate, more comfortable to shoot, and much easier to conceal than the Glock. However, as many have said, even being a 1911 fan, if you put a Glock against a 1911 and shoot them equally over the years, you will most probably start having problems or issues with the 1911 first from a reliability stand point.

With all that, I would still make the trade and pay special attention to maintenence in order to shoot more accurately and carry more comfortably.

The lightweight officers is much thinner and easier packing concealed hands down. I got both, why should I lie?:neener: It never jammed on me even BEFORE I sent it to Heinie for sights and 'reliability' package. Now it feeds everything all the time and is accurate to boot! I have startled quite a few trainers when I pulledmy backup gun. They told me I should use it as a primary!
