 I went to buy some last night at their usual low prices, and to my surprise all the hand gun ammo is now on the shelf for all to touch and handle insead of behind glass. I thought that was strange, so I picked up my 100 round box of 9mm and paid for it at the sports counter. Got home and opened it and it dawned on me that any kid could of opened this box and grabbed a few rounds from it and close it back up:what: . So, panicked, I counted every round and all 100 were there. Does any other Wal Marts do this? I am thinking about calling the store manager and explain to them how unsafe of a practice this is. I can just see gang bangers supplying their stolen 9mm's with ammo this way, grab 5 rounds from each box when no one is looking and who is going to know?

At my Walmart, they have put some of the ammo on the countertop glass when they were trying to get rid of it.
Better question, what did you pay for it?:)

I think the need to hire a old lady to stand at a table and hand out samples Like they do over in gro. Would you like to try some Remington HP today?:D

When you realize that thieves will steal anything that isn't nailed down, it makes you glad it's behind glass. I like to be able to find what I need without having to bug semi-competent employees, but in box-retailers, ammo should be locked up, IMO.
From the retailers standpoint, some 13yr old swipes some ammo, plays with his dad's gun, gets killed=lawsuit.
From a customer standpont: Do you really want ammo out where bob knows what can happen to it.? I know for a fact that a lot of parents will stand by and let their kids tear up a store without telling them to stop. I've seen it, it ticks me off. Imagine if the parent looks away, a kid gets two different boxes of ammo off a counter, opens and spreads them out. The parent looks back, recoils in absolute terror :what: at ammunition in their kid's hands, and crams them all back into the boxes without any thought to whether it's the same. You come along and unknowingly buy an affected box, and at home, realize there's 9mm Makarov mixed in your Luger box. It's not returnable in my state. Even worse, maybe you don't notice it!!!

Point of advice: Open the box before you pay, if you can.

RKBA requires us to have and use common sense, and like it or not, ammunition sitting openly availiable in an uncontrolled envronment is not smart. A gun/hunting store is different. Pack the walls with ammo for all to fondle. There's someone behind a counter somewhere that will take the time to sort out my above example. Most people that shop in such a store know enough to keep their kids on a short leash. I'd say shop-lifting of ammo by gang-bangers is probably at a minimum.

just my opinions...

I also noticed that the ammo has changed locations at my local Wal Mart. My wife and I ran into the store for a few things the other night and I wandered back to the sporting goods area and noticed that they had the ammo out from behind the back of the counter and in a display case in one of the isles. It is still under lock and key as far as I could tell...I don't remember if I actually tried to slide the glass doors open.

I also noticed the average price looked to be up about $2-4 for the ammo I commonly buy there.

They only put it in the aisles where I shop if they have a load of it they want to flog, otherwise it is behind the counter.

Paying 14.56 + tax here... I buy a couple boxes every two weeks.

ROFL

Yeah, I wish they would post more of what they have in stock and pricing online, while they're at it, and then include :what: their roll back pricing specials in the circular and mailer, so I know when to go load up!!!

Last two boxes I bought had 101 and 85:banghead: rounds in them.

Needless to say I wasn't to happy.

They are $14.88 locally here in SW Washington.

The price went up to $12.88 last time I looked. At that price, I save $50 a case by reloading it. I'm sure the price has gone up since December, so I probably save $75 or so now.

Before we know it, 9mm will cost what .45 ACP did 2 years ago.

Prior to Christmas WWB was 11.26, now almost 15.00

What has happened to the price of 9mm? it used to be so nice to stock up at Wally world at just over 11 a box of 100, and now it is higher than what I can buy it online for. Sort of sucks. what could cause nearly a 30% increase overnight?

Pretty soon it's not going to matter around my way. The trend here is for the ranges to make you buy their ammo. All outside ammo banned. I thought about taking up reloading, but I'm afraid to invest the money only to find out like my friend did that he can't shoot any of his 1000's of rounds he's accumulated reloading. I'm relunctant to even buy in bulk for this simple reason. I can go to the south and still find a few ranges that allow outside ammo, but all to the north no longer do. So cheap Walmart ammo may not be practical pretty soon. Bummer. :(

I found the same thing as Billy H. Ammo was moved out beside the counter in a big tall, locked glass case.

You can actually see what they have and the price.

Tired of Wally's price?

14.56 for WWW 9mm in North Augusta, SC. I found a thread somewhere (maybe here) about Natchezss.com having Blazer with aluminum casings for 6.00 per box of 50. Twenty boxes delivered came out to about 13.85 per box. My SW9VE had no digestion problems!

I think last fall when I bought a couple boxes it was $11.88 each.
Wasn't on sale or anything. This was probably in November or so.
