WWB went up!

Yeah....

Just got back from Wally World. 26.XX for .40S&W. That's just nuts IMO.

I remember about two years ago when Wally World had 9mm for around 11 for 100, .40S&W for around 14 per 100 and .45 for around 20 per 100.

Am I the only one who thinks that $27 for 100 rounds of .40 is just outrageous? Between the ammo and range fees, it's costing me around 70 dollars to shoot for an hour.

That's just sad....

I seriously stocked up just after Christmas as it was apparent a price change was coming. I've got about 2500 rounds of 9mm, .40, and .45 put away. I shoot much less centerfire now and generally only shoot a box per range trip. I bring a bulk pack of .22 with me and blast away with the Dan Wesson's I bought just for this reason...

It's the same as the price of gas -- I just buy it and don't pay much attention to the price. I ain't rich, but shooting is my hobby and if I have to pay an arm and a leg to do it, I'll just cut expenses in other areas. I still drive a gas guzzling SUV and I still shoot as much as I ever have.
.

I didnt make it before the price change...sort of. i was out of town on business in a state that doesnt have any sales tax. WalMart was right near where I was so I stopped in and picked up a box at 15.XX....they have a bunch more, I thought to myself that I should pick more up but I didn't. this was tuesday. i went to my local walmart tonight hopeing they were slacking on the change....nope...18.42. i still bought 2 boxes just in case it goes up again soon. Its still the cheapest 9mm to be had short of reloading.

Eh. Welcome to 1998's prices. I wonder how long till we hear about decaying agents in the powder (again) or not being able to find a single damn non-magnum primer on the shelf (again).

Oh, wait.

Ain't nothin new under the sun, fellas.

I remember about two years ago when Wally World had 9mm for around 11 for 100, .40S&W for around 14 per 100 and .45 for around 20 per 100.

Yep. Around here it was $11.88 per 100 rounds around 2004 or so. Bit more than 2 years. In 2006 I seem to recall it was already $13-14. For awhile, the bullets weren't even copper jacketed-- they were copper washed. It still shot fine. About 6-8 years before that, we were paying $9.95 for UMC in the yellow 50 round box. So, about 2004, you would be paying 1998's 9mm prices for .45 ACP.

I'm not going be buy ammo from Walmart for a while. Actually, probably not from anywhere in hopes that prices start going down. But I will watch the prices and make sure I don't get burned too bad on how much I have to pay. Walmart seems like they are just out to make a buck on the ammo, as they used to be the cheapest in town, now they are just barely cheaper than sales at other stores.

I bought some 9mm yesterday. Still $15.72/100. .45 Auto was still $28.98/100. I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

What did go up - and rather substantially - was Blazer Brass. .45 went from $11.97/50 to $14.98/50. 9mm went up to $8.98/50.

Maybe I should bite the bullet and get a 9mm, because .40 S&W is high and 357SIG is just extortion. .45 ACP and 9mm seem to be more reasonable.

Where are you buying ammo that .45 ACP is cheaper then .40 S&W? It is almost 7 dollars more per 100 here.

I've been notorious at the sports and hunting section for buying them out of .45 blazer brass, albeit only 2-4 boxes a shot if there was even any left for me, but since the price increase they have been busting at the seems with $5-6 increased .45 boxes of the very same blaser brass. I refuse to buy any more till the price drops. I'm not paying $18/50 rounds of blazer...

I noticed it went up here in Indiana too. Maybe it's the difference in the two Wal-Marts I've been to, but it used to be like 7 dollars for a box of 50 9mm. Now it's almost 9 dollars a box. A box of 40S&W used to be 8-9 dollars tops. Now it's 12.50 and .45acp was somewhere around the $14 dollar mark last time I checked. The .45s didn't seem so expensive anymore..$12.50 for a box of .40s??? yikes.

Or... we don't buy for a couple months and force them to lower their prices. If you play the hoarding game they'll play the price gouging game.

Wal-Mart wouldn't lower their prices in that case; they'd quit carrying it. I don't seem to fit in the top 80% market that Wal-Mart supports in most things they carry and they are constantly dropping the products I prefer.

For the reloaders in the thread, I wonder what effect the upcoming laws in some states about serial numbers on bullets will have on reloading. Or, perhaps more important, what effect reloading will have on laws requiring serial numbers on bullets.

I have reloaded just a few rounds perhaps 15 years ago. My reloading equipment was stolen from a storage room after I moved to Oklahoma. As it was, I was always very nervous shooting my reloaded rounds. I suppose that was because of lack of experience and would have passed. I never got that far in reloading but I am thinking of doing it again.

dalepres,

Give reloading another chance. Second time is the charm, if you are careful and follow the wealth of information out there you can't go wrong. I know reloading component prices have also soared. But you can mitigate some of the costs, for example, I don't buy 9mm brass as I pick it up at the range. There are still a lot of guys that do not pick up their once-fired 9mm ammo. What did it for me was when I got a S&W model 19, and I saw what they wanted for .357 ammo. I ordered some dies and only shoot my reloads through it now. The only factory ammo I shoot is .22 rimfire.

Prices are up here too. I am going to start using my stash for a while. I have 8000 rounds of 9mm, and 4000 rounds of 45acp. Plus I have 223, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 7.62x54R and 8x57.

I also have 15000 rounds of 22lr. All was purchased at old prices. This should last me for a while.

I shoot a lot more 22lr now.

Oh well. I'll continue buying it for $18.xx per box. It still beats anybody else in my area by $10 per box. Gander Mountain($28.xx per box), and Farm King($17.xx per 50 rounds!!) are the ones that are outrageous in my opinion. Hopefully Wally World will be able to keep it reasonable compared to those stores for years to come.
