As the title say's, XD or Glock, which do you prefer and why? Lets hash out the attributes and negative aspects of both guns.:D Lets keep it civil, no name-calling, everyone has an opinion and is entitled to it.:D

SA has excellent customer service as well. I had a problem with my xd .45, (slide would lock back mid-mag) and they fixed it for free. I think I had to pay shipping and that's it. I like the xd better because you can get a compact .45 that carries 13 +1. That right there is why I went springfield armory rather than glock.

Glock's are extremely easy to customize to your taste. Easy to work on, and inexpensive to modify. They have a track record of twenty plus years of reliable service and keep on going no matter what.

Glocks...All my handguns are strictly for self defense...Went with Glocks countless years ago. They have served me well and see no reason to switch. I do have a few S&W revolvers...

I wish you would have thrown the M&P in the mix and you would have had a really good thread. I have Glocks and an XD and like both. I have had the Glocks much longer and have really shot the mess out of them with no drama at all. My XD45 has been great also, just haven't shot as much. My XD did have a promblem feeding a certain bucket mouth hollow point. My three Glocks have never had a problem feeding any hollow point ammo.

XD, their grip angle fits me like a glove (angle similar to 1911, CZ, etc).

I've had just about every Glock made, but their grip angle is not comfortable, replaced them with XDs:D

The XD. I actually compared the two when I was picking out my first handgun and the Glock didn't fit at all while the XD was ergonomically perfect for me.

XD's ergos are better for me. I actually like the grip safety and their customer service is top notch. When my father had a problem with his HS2000, SA fixed it no questions asked (they were not obligated to do so).

I own both.

Glock advantages over the XD:

- Replacement parts; can fix it at home
- Aftermarket support

XD advantages over the Glock:

- Superior ergonomics (no finger grooves, thumb depressions for better indexing, 1911 grip angle)
- Borrows features from Sig Sauer style handguns and the 1911 that some like

So really it just depends. Magazines are about the same price. It's kind of a crap shoot. My question is, what do you want?

I do feel that the high point of the Glock product line is the "Compact" frame (The G19/23/32 frame) because it is the absolutely perfect size and represents something that I don't think anyone on the market quite matches (not saying it's necessarily better just unique). The G26/G27 and Glock 30 are interesting offerings too.

Now that said I have an XD9SC I've had no problems with at all. I love my XD40 Tactical and think it's a better offering than the closest competing Glock product. I also think the XD45ACP Service represents something the XD has accomplished in a .45 ACP that no one has quite replicated yet.

If I had to do it over again, I'd make all my 9x19 chambered guns Glocks and all my larger bore semi autos XDs.

I have both. Like the XD much better as I shoot them much better than I do the Glocks. Don't like the Glock trigger and they just don't fit me well, plenty accurate off sandbags though, but in my hands they are about my worst shooting gun.

Overall I'd say the XD are my favorite plastic gun.

XD

Here's why-

a) Steel sights, dovetailed into the slide, not pinned on.
b) Loaded chamber indicator on top of the slide, highly visible.
c) Cocking indicator, lets you know the weapon is "HOT".
d) Ambi magazine release, Glock left side only.
e) Stainless steel "drop free" magazines w/o problems.
f) 1911 grip saftey and grip angle, much like the 1911-A1 .45 ACP.
g) Melonite finish, equal to Glock's Tennifer process.
h) Accessory package, that Glock does not offer.
i) Highly rated customer service department- any doubts just ask for Debbie~!
j) Lifetime Warranty
k) Cost 469-489, as compared to Glocks 499-549.

Do I need anymore reasons?

Downside to the XD line- Springfield will not sell parts to anyone, not even
XD armorers [from what I've been told].

I agree with euclidean and I'll add one more caveat.:D The XD series has superior chamber support, which is very important in the 40 S&W caliber, I own an XD-40. Also, lead bullets are no problem with the XD's and its a much safer proposition shooting reloads in the XD. With those caveat's, I think euclidean hit the nail on the head.:D

Edit : I agree with Ala Dan 100% also. (smiley face).

I just went through this decision with my wife. XD 9 Service, M&P 9, and Glock 19 were all in the running.

The M&P was eliminated first, because the one at the range consistently hit her in the forehead. The anticipatory wince did awful things to her grouping.

So it came down to the XD & Glock. She was a tad more accurate with the XD. But, she ended up buying the Glock because she was able to rack the slide easily. It is important to her that she be able to handle all aspects of the gun if she owns it. While she could rack the XD, it took a lot more effort.

She's very happy with her decision.

The Glock has a name, by the way: "Gus."

I like HK the best.

But of the two listed, I like the XD due to the grip safety. Its not necessary but I like it as it maybe useful. I am not to familiar with the gun but the ergos were decent and I liked the sites. I disliked the way the gun feels a little to top heavy for me but it could just be me.

I like the Glock as it is a revolutionary design. The great customer service and avilability of parts is also a great factor. I do dislike plastic magazines but I would expect them to be more expensive if they went to metal mags. The sights are not that great in my opinion either but they are decent.

I dislike the appearance of both guns. I prefer the Glock a little more than the XD, especially the Compact and subcompact models. Simply in terms of aesthetics.

If I had to choose I would go Glock simply because it is easier to get parts for and the mags are cheap.

But in the end I made the right choice and bought an HK.;)

Had 'em both and went with the XD45.

Better fit in my hand, and more accurate than Glocks with me pulling the trigger. I also like the grip safety.

I own a G26, G34, and a XD 5" 45.

XD advantages:

ambidextrous mag release
light rail on all models (glocks don't have it on the baby glocks)
somewhat easier to take apart
XD 45 has a much thinner grip vs G21
grip angle is a bit nicer ( glock's isnt bad, but XD is a bit better)
stock XD trigger somewhat better then stock glock trigger
can shoot lead ammo out of a stock XD

Glock advantages

considerably longer track record, lots of LE and MIL testing
the 9mm glocks have more mag capacity vs the xd 9's
load chamber indicator doesn't foul up like the xd's
easier to get parts
cheaper mags
sights on glock MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to add / remove / adjust
glock trigger has MUCH better reset vs XD, glock 3.5 trigger is roughly same as the XD with the better reset
slide MUCH easier to rack
easier to find a gunsmith to work on one if needed
more holsters and mods for glock

overall opinion:

Both are REALLY good guns and are fairly similar in operation. Your choice of caliber will have an impact on which one you'll want. IMHO, the Glocks are great in 9mm, the XD rules in 45, and 40 its probably a wash (though I do hear that the XD's are easier on brass in 40).

Best bet is to decide on a caliber, rent or borrow one, shoot it, then decide.

My Glocks are truly the tools of my collection. I shoot matches with them, use them for HD duty, and carry one with me whenver I leave my house. I have all the tools I'd ever need to service them (a sight pusher, front sight tool, and a 3/16" punch), and they operate without fail under very dusty conditions (shooting matches in the desert tend to be gritty).

I may in the future add some XD's to my collection - I've shot the 9 service and 9 compact and thought they were good for the price - but at this point, they'd never replace my Glocks.

The ergonomics of the Glock are just fine, the fact is it either fits you perfectly or you hate it. It's nothing new with pistols, but with the Glock vs. XD argument it's constantly addressed by the XD crowd as why Glocks aren't as good. Don't get me wrong, the XD is an alright pistol, nothing at all wrong with it's performance, reliability, or accessibility. I just feel that everything the XD does the Glocks do better and simpler. I don't need a grip safety, loaded chamber or cocking indicator to feel safe and in control. I'm left handed and ambidextrous mag releases aren't important to me at all as I use my index finger for mag changes. Bottom line is the XD has many features and elements of it's design that polymer framed guns haven't had the luxury of for the past 20 years of service or so. To some it's a welcome addition/solution but to others like me I'm just fine with the Glock, and strongly prefer it.

Glock is out for me. Feels like i'm holding a toy, the squishy trigger is just horrible, and natural POA from draw is roughly 10 feet too high at 20 feet. Great if I want to shoot the wayward pigeon-bomber. I also hate saying the name. It just sounds harsh, and to be honest, it sounds like a big glob of something on the floor, I.E. Hey, get back in the kitchen and clean up that glock of mayo you dropped!! [flamesuit on]

XD9 is a much better fit for me. Natural POA from draw is spot on, has a crisp trigger, and it feels like I've got something with substance in my hand.

My choice is a Glock 17/19.

Inexpensive, readily-available, easily-installed parts.
Unbelievable durability.
Simple to maintain.
Comfortable to shoot.

How can you go wrong?

Briefly owned an XD in 9mm. Didn't care for it. Got rid of it.

G/S

I own both.

Glock Pros:
9mm = 1 more round in the mag
Cheap parts & service anywhere
universally known, identified, brand name, know a Glock at a glance
proven track record of withstanding abuse

XD pros:
Stainless-steel mags that actually feel good when you use them, drop free easily, slide in easily, etc.
Ergonomics are better
Take-down lever more Sig-like, easier to use
Ambi mag release
Uses Sig nightsights.

Glock Cons:
Cheesy plasticy magazines, even the new style feels flimsy
Higher price
Ergonomics are pretty much love or hate (appearance, too)

XD cons:
Not so much support or repair parts out there except factory
Grip safety. Argh.
Mags expensive-ish and not readily available

I sold off my Glocks one by one and have not replaced them. I still have one. And one XD. But I am now in love with Sigs.
