xd40sc firing pin retainer

My xd firing pin retainer broke and would not fire, just light primer strikes. So i removed it. Do you really need the retaining pin?

I think you do. Call Springfield CS and they'll give you another one. If they're backordered, check out xdguys.com if you want to order a replacement and don't want to wait for one.

You should be able to buy 3 or 4 roll pins from XDguys for a couple bucks. A roll pin punch will make it easier to put in, but a regular punch will work. It's not rare for them to break. I suspect dry firing may shorten their life.

They are bad about working loose and getting lost, and breaking occasionally.

I think it is unwise to extensively dry fire a XD series pistol. I keep a couple of spares around just in case.

Thanks but nothanks on the springfield replacement pin. The only time i dry fire is when i field strip the gun ,maybe 20 time and i got it new in april. I thank i will try to get a 3mmx16mm spring roll pin for it.
