The only reason that Anderson got a the rep for not being high quality was they made a lot of the AR manufacturers very mad. It wasn’t all that long ago that there were only about ten or so manufactures of milspec AR lowers. Anderson was one of them. Your average AR lowers were selling for $150 and up. Anderson was one of the largest manufacturers and made lowers for several companies that sold the lowers for $150 and up.
Anderson then dropped a bomb on the AR world. They started selling their lowers for $49.99. That was $100 less then their competitors.
When you could buy three Anderson lowers for the price of one, people started buying them like crazy. Other companies had to lower their prices to be able to compete in the market.
And we all know how some people are, they think if you’re not spending a lot of money on something, then it’s not high quality. Then someone coined the name Poverty Pony for Anderson because, they had the horse head on the side of the receiver. I found it funny because they were still making lowers for other companies that were selling them for $99.99 after Anderson had dropped their price. And the fact that there was another company that had a little horse on the side of their AR lowers, that some people think are the best, that has filled for bankruptcy more times then I can count.
Do you remember, at one point, you could buy Anderson lowers for $39.99. I do because, I bought a bunch of them at that price.
Anderson makes quality ARs at an affordable price.

Anderson took a hit to it's rep when builders using Anderson lowers were having problems with critical dimensions being out of spec.

I'm sure an Anderson AR will be fine, but it's a good idea to have a spare extractor spring from Colt or Spring on hand, replace the carbine buffer with an H2, have a spare action spring and hammer spring.

(You can save yourself from future extraction issues by installing the Colt or Spring spring as soon as possible.)

You do realize that Anderson made lowers for Colt. The lowers used on the Colt Spoter model, with the built in trigger guard, we’re Anderson manufacturer lowers.

Colt was also buying small parts from other companies for their commercial AR rifles.
Colt also went belly up in 2020 and was bought up by CZ less then a year ago.

While I have not bought a complete rifle from Anderson, I have used plenty of their stripped lowers for builds. They work just fine.

One of the complaints about Anderson a few years ago was that they did not finish threading the 1/4" 20 hole for the pistol grip bolt. Users had to either use a shorter bolt or finish tapping the hole. I always just grabbed a 1/4" 20 tap and finished the job instead of worrying about finding a shorter bolt. But then again I always run a tap in the pistol grip hole on every stripped lower I buy no matter the brand.

I added a thick lock washer and it solved the problem.

After selling my AR's a few years ago I am looking for another, yet again. Looking at this
Anderson AM15 at Sportsmans Warehouse, on sale for $599 and I have a gift card to use, and also get a military discount. Anyone have one to comment on?
AIM Surplus is selling complete Anderson’s for $499, and their stripped lowers for $49.99.

None of the above has any bearing on the fact that, awhile back, people were having problems with Anderson lowers and it hurt Anderson’s reputation.

Aim still charges shipping and then I have a $30 FFL to pay. I am happy never heard of the Anderson problems might have been from folks looking to shut them down. Instead Colt got shut out??

I've got two Anderson lowers in service. One of them is a stock Anderson complete lower with a Checkmate upper and has about 4000rds thru it at this point with no problems. The other has a custom BCG and trigger group and only a few hundred rds, but no problems with it either.

So with my Military discount, $25 gift card and including my $16 box of 223 ammo and 6% sales tax still = $595 not bad for buying from a company that is still in business vs the Pony that did not make the grade. The proof is at the range of course.

The dry fire trigger is great and my red/green dot optic snapped right on and just needed a minor adjustment using my red dot bore sight.

PS I have owned AR's off and on since 1992, not my first rodeo.

I do remember that there were few complaints, but it wasn’t much. And Anderson replaced the lowers that did have problems. But as I see it Anderson is a company that stands behind the products they sell.
