not much of a revolver guy but I thought it looked pretty cool.

Dont like the fact that it has "El Diablo" engraved on it though

I don't see a contradiction for a church to auction this revolver. "The Devil" and "El Diablo," in the context of our English, American culture, although technically the same words, has widely different connotations. While not particularly embracing Christianity and Christian values, there isn't a 100% direct contradiction -- as far as I see it anyway.

But I agree, I wouldn't want that revolver for even half of that price. "El Diablo" is just a little hokey, not to mention a bit of a racy thing to print on a firearm. But then again, I like my guns modest and unassuming. Spartan is my standard of beauty.

Why someone would put that money into a ruger blackhawk is beyond me. Ugly little thing. It is pretty funy that a church is auctioning off a gun named the devil.

A bit too fancy for my taste, but a beautiful work of art. Never used Reeder's services but from what I've heard thru the grape vine they are a top notch shop.

Because the Blackhawk makes an excellent base gun to customize. You have a strong quality revolver that doesn't cost a lot that helps hold down the the total price of the package.

I like the base gun (a lot), but could definitely do without the laser engraving and gold accents. Reeder sure loves his laser engraver......:barf:

jamesb, Thats an Old Model Ruger, they are outstanding for customizing. And the current price is no where close to what some of the finished guns cost.

Well, I'm completely shocked that they would put something like that on a pistol...just gives me goose bumps and cold chills. Next thing you know they'll have one engraved with 3 sixes.

It NOT called the Devil

It is NOT called the "Devil" the name of the pistol is

"El Diablo"

Gary Reeder produces another pistol similar to it called the "Wichita Classic"

I've had the pleasure of shooting a gun just like that - and it is a dream to shoot. It is smooth and very accurate. Reeders work is second to none.

And Jim Taylor is a damn fine Christian man. Putting up a $1500 pistol for the proceeds to go to church service is beyond many of us.

I think it's pretty funny, because El Diablo does in fact mean "The Devil". Ruger1280, your right that it's impressive that someone put that up for charitable purposes, and I am sure that he is a fine Christian man, but it means what it means. Now, I would argue that there isn't a thing in the world wrong with a Christian owning, building or auctioning something called El Diablo, but it is funny.

Put another way, if I get called "Gordo", I am going to be upset because it means "Fat" in a derogatory way. That the person isn't saying "Hey Fatty" in perfect english doesn't take away from the meaning of the word.

El Diablo is the sizzle on the steak (gun). It sells.
I would buy that over a gun called Chile con Queso (A rich cheese dip with tomatoes and chiles).

I love it, but why .44 special? Kind of like kissing your sister, needs to be .44 mag.:D

...

the coincidence between so many hardcore christians and the NRA
beats me everytime anyway :)

we recently had the police auctioning off knifes they
had confiscated in a program to "get weapons off the streets".
That sure was funnny once the newspapers got wind of it....

My only complaint is that Gary Reeder decided to put his name on the barrel as well. So ifin's I were to by said gun, any unknowing friend would simply think the guy who owned it before me was some fella named Reeder. I realize he is proud of his work but let's face it, if George Barris, or Boyd Coddington and the likes put their name in big gold letters on th hood of every car they built, they wouldn't be as popular as they are today. Anywhoooo, enough ranting, if I had the money to spare I would buy it, it can be used as a church donation tax right off, and simply fun to shoot.

 And yes, I would shoot it, must be El Diablo in me eh?

You guys should all check out Reeder's website. If you think this little gun is outlandish, you ain't see nothin' yet! He makes some of the most 'out there' sixguns around.

Want a cards and nekkid ladies motif? He's got 'em! Personally I think he is a little too in love with his laser engraver, but he is a fabulous gunsmith.
