I mostly carry my XDm 9mm, 147gr XTP handloads are more then potent enough if you can shoot, and I am pretty darn good with a handgun. That said working up loads for my sister in laws XDm 40 S&W has given me a whole bunch of respect for that caliber.
Count me in for 9x18mm too. I understand the poll would have been rather ponderous with every pistol caliber currently available, but don't underestimate the popularity of the Makarov, CZ-82, and P-64.
I usually have a .357 Magnum SP101 with me, as one of two guns. This has not changed much since the late 1990s or very early 2000s. I am exploring other options as age-related infirmities affect my ability to tolerate and control recoil.
I voted 40 cause that's what I carry the most but also carry 9mm and 45 acp. Depends on weather and clothing worn and how I'm feeling for the day. I carry my 40 the most.
I voted for 9mm as I'm carrying my PM9 more these days but for many years and still, I've carried a 442 j-frame (pre +P) loaded with standard pressure Hydra-Shoks. I also am comfortable carrying my Beretta Jetfire (.25) loaded with 9 rounds of hardball.
Interesting poll so far. 9mm way out front as expected. What's most interesting, is that the .45 ACP carriers outnumber the .40 carriers by better than 2 to 1. I prefer .45 ACP myself, but I wouldn't have guessed the margin to be that vast.
