I have been reading and reading and there must be hundreds of different scope setups for M1As.

I have a M1A Springfield Scout in Walnut.

Don't like the forward mount, tried it, too much weight forward.

I would like to get a solid mount. Thinking about going with the Bassett Picatinny rail?

Rings, not sure would like to go with LaRue quick disconnet but at almost $200.00 a set not going to happen. Want some solid rings, ideas?

Scope, wow some I would have to sell my truck to buy. Would like a solid scope (good warranty) 2.5x10? Ideas? Prefer 30mm but would go with 1inch. Ideas?

Budget, scope under 500.00, rings under a hundred.

What say you? Pics ?

Get the Bassett and don't have any worries. Mounts solidly and will be almost dead on if you remove and put back on. I ran a Bassett with a used Super Sniper 10x; worked great.

mine is on order, when I get it, it will be left as is with iron sights, just like when I carried one 40 years ago. I was fortunate to have a very good CO that knew what we needed and got some for us, good selection for us at the time. cant wait...

I have a Springfield NM M1A and I have it scoped with the Springfield 3rd Generation Scope Mount and it works great and it also takes standard Weaver rings. You can get some good deals on both Ebay and GunBroker on theses mounts the last time I looked.. You can also remove and remount your scope without loss of zero if and when you want ot use iron sights.

Here's mine. GDI G1 OSM mount, it has 3 points of contact, 4 set screws. The side of the reciever, each side of the stripper clip guide, and one more on the forward top of the reciever. Pretty solid.

The scope is the lowest end Mark 4, 4.5-14x40 PR. The rings are a matched set of Farrell's.

The scope and rings I had on a several bolt rifles, the mount I found after about a year of waiting patiently for the right priced one to come along.

I have been using a Sadlak mount with Burris Xtreme tactical rings. It has been trouble free for three years now. Scope returns to within .5moa when R&R'ed.

Sadlak is the only one offering a "fitting kit" and well machine the mount for a receiver that may be out of spec. Check out http://www.m14tfl.com/upload/ for more info on the Sadlak, very well thought of scope mount their.

For my M1A I have the Smith Enterprise NSN 5855-01-506-5750 (military issue) with 3 point contact. I use a set of Warne Tactical 30mm Rings, $83.00 shipped (yes they do repeat when taken off/on) and use a Burris XTR 3-12 x 50 scope ($584 shipped). I find this to hold alignment perfectly so far when taking the scope off the base. I have not removed the base because it is setup to use iron sights when you remove the scope. The only thing you may need is a cheek rest. Since I have the Marine Supermatch I wasn't going to drill holes in the McMillian camo stock so I am using the blackhawk cheekrest with velcro. If & when I get a Scout I would use the adjustable cheek rest to go from scope to irons. I use Warne Tactical rings for my Remington Sendero with the Burris Black Diamond 8-32 x50. Burris makes a great scope for the money. Got both scopes off ebay from a1bargains (seller). He has some really great deals. Just have to wait till they come around. I would "google" to find the best prices. Found the scope base for the M1A that way cheap, $210.00 shipped. Just keep searching for those deals

The last two sets of rings I have bought have been Warne. They are a very nice product. I just put a set of QD's on a AR10. I need some range time to tell if they are going to be repeatable.

Red State I see you are using a promag copy of the arms #18 mount! Do you like it? Does it still hold zero? I just recently received mine in the mail even being a little skeptical i decided to go with it and hope i didnt make a wrong decision. Thanks

pics? trying to get ideas what it looks like with a bassett? Wanting to get it as low as possible, still thinking about the iron sights being useful

I am looking into getting scoped on my M1A as well, but im worried about my cheek weld. Any of these mount brands come a little lower? I dont want my CW to be somewhere on the bottom of my chin!

I just put the promag copy of the arms 18 on mine and its very low! I did have to do some tweaking of the mount to get it aligned right but it wasn't to difficult! overall it looks good i just have to make a trip to the range to see if it works ok!

So far the Promag mount has been great. It is solid steel and all of the hardware is of decent hardness.

I have taken it on and off once, but have not detected any movement with it. I still need to do a bit more shooting with it and thus far I would not have noticed any zero changes because I have been experimenting with multiple ammo types.

You need to have room for the brass to exit to top of the receiver. Unless you are using a huge bell scope you can get by with low rings normally. You still need some form of cheek pad added to the butt stock. I'm thinking about changing mine to a Kydex cheek rest. The Coyote (https://www.coyotem1a.com/) pad I have now works good just want to try something different.

This is a very low profile set up for an M1A....

No issues with ejecting brass, although I had some Malaysian milsurp in the past that would sometimes nick the scope's bell housing on the way out.
