Your ultimate combat revolver?

Darn you, Gabby!! Short answer, my 547.

Okay--first the apology--I love revolvers, just about any revolver from the little .22 short NAA (Don't have one) to the mighty S&W 500. (wouldn't want one)-I have 3 or 4 revolvers to every semi-auto. I carry a revolver on my person. Both vehicles, Ditto. When you use the word "combat" not everyday self protection, but a walk in the park on Hell Night or as you guys say WTSHTF, my beloved five, six, and nine shooters stay home. Hello Mr. Hi- Cap. (Ruger P95 AND the ugly Glock 19) Had I neither it would be the not yet mentioned by anyone yet, (Gabby, I was going to post this 20 min. ago but had a long winded phone call) Smith Mod 547. As Gabby mentioned, it is a 9mm, no moon clips, just pure fire-breathing action. Mine is a 3" RB purchased from a ASA Sgt. Major.---Thanks, (we still friends?)---Tom

What great responses. When I said "combat" I was really thinking more of personal close quarters combat. I took the word from the title of Duncan Long's book "The Combat Revolver" and the "Combat Handgunnery" series of books. Having fairly defined opinions on what I prefer I was interested in the variety of thoughts others had. I guessed there would be a wide range of interesting ideas.

Thanks, Steve

If we're talking personal carry I think you'd be hard pressed to do better then the 3" S&W model 13 or perhaps the 3" Model 65LS or maybe the classic M66 w/2.5" barrel. So many choices.

If we're not talking CCW, then this one:

S&W M-625 5" barrel, .45 ACP.

If it needs to be concealed:

Model15-2.jpg

S&W Model 15, 2" barrel, .38 Special.

S&W 13-2 with a round butt and 3" barrel, cut for full moon clips but still capable of using loose ammo. Full chamber polishing, and a mild chamfer on the charge holes. Tritium inserted steel front sight, stock main spring with an extra power trigger return spring and a mild action polish. Full hard chrome, inside and out, with a bead blasted exterior. An old Bucheimer concealer holster, a couple dozen moon clips and a couple speed strips would complete the package.

S&W Performance Center 681, with a 3" non-ported barrel, 7 shots, and a trijicon front night site installed. Nothin' better.

4 inch blued smith 19

should i have to say it? isnt it the combat magnum? i have two almost identical a 19-3 and 19-4 i call them momma and baby sister, momma is well broken in and has battle scars, baby sister is lnib maybe 2 cylinders of 125 sjsp thru it then put it away. thank you america for the combat magnum.......

325PD is pretty close for me. Ideal would be a 4" 625 with the cylinder cut to accept .460 Rowland, .45 Super, or what have you.

The perfect combat revolver for me is my 4" 686-6. Out of all the revolvers I have....(other than an old Colt Targetsman .22, I have no semi-auto's, and don't want one).....the 4" 686 is the fastest out of the holster, accurate enough with a two hand hold, to shoot 2" groups at 50 feet, and the smoothest action of any D/A revolver I have ever shot.
I would take this gun and the 4 HKS speedloaders I have for it anywhere's at any time.......

44!!

For many years..the SW 686..4"..was my favorite.."go to"...when I felt the need for a weapon. But thanks to Sarah Brady....on the last day before the Brady law took effect.I picked up a SW 5"..629 Classic....
has become my all time "best"!! With handloads tailored for my preferences...can not imagine any thing this revolver can not handle.

Easy question... the Webley-Forsberry automatic revolver.

Also the safest... while the other guy is laughing I pop him with a .455 "Colonial" round.

Any three-inch, round butt Model 13/65 (stoked with 145-grain Silvertips). My personal inclination is toward the M65LS--good for open carry and fast into action and great for concealed carry. It truly does both jobs effectively and with certain amount of class.

1917 Colt or Smith.

It should use moon clips, have a buttery trigger and be proved 'in the trenches'

The odd shape of the Colt grip can be filled with a t-grip if you really must.

For MODERN combat, I'd view a revolver as a backup, concealed weapon for use on people who are planning on dying soon anyway. I'd want a Ruger SP 101 in .44 Special or .45 Colt. Heck, ideally I'd want a auto/burglar style shotgun.

I like the 4 inch barrel for serious work. In this light, I'd say a S&W M58 with round butt, a M657, or my M657 4-inch full-lug. Started life as a California legal M657 7.5 inch monstrosity. Was cut, crowned, shaped like a 686 and a patridge-type front sight mounted with changeable pinned blade.:D

I would have to go with a S&W Mod 24 1950 Target .44 Special 4inch barrel.

This one works pretty good as well.

.44 Russian/44 S&W Special Colt New Service with a 4 1/2 tube.
