Although not overtly pro-gun on its own, it certainly is pro-gun in the context of the movie, as well as just about any imaginable self defense situation. While we don't necessarily need to be mean in the current political environment, we will certainly "neither live nor win" if we lose our heads and give up. In that context, it's hard to imagine a more appropriate pro-gun quote. That's just the way it is.
