Youtube Question for Debate

The question will be whether or not they can come up with three out of 20,000. I bet they can't and for this reason they won't choose the question.

Actually, I think it can be about laws. For an example, what top 3 people control laws would you like to see repealed? My list, not necessarily in order:

1. The hated Lautenberg amendment. This law is bad because of the wildly varying definitions of what constitutes a violation from state to state. Federal laws shouldn't be so ambiguous.

2. All provisions of the GCA that don't have to do with preventing violent felons from purchasing firearms until they have their rights restored. There should be a mechanism for review that's not cost prohibitive, complicated or overly long. This is one of my biggest gripes, that you can have all your other rights restored but the mechanism for restoring 2A rights has been effectively stopped.

3. The NFA. Congress' power to tax was never meant as a means to infringe on basic rights. The 2A is one of those.

I'm not looking at the political realities, just at getting rid of the laws that are most onerous to peacable, law abiding citizens.

As long as the thread stays on the topic of legality, repeal of gun laws, etc. it is appropriate for this forum. If it strays into political candidates, the merits of various parties, mine is better than yours, etc. those posts will just be deleted.

Example of on-topic: "The NoName party has introduced the following gun control proposals in the 109th session of Congress: strict factual recitation of bills introduced follows" - good to go for legal.

Example of off-topic: "The NoName party is a bunch of gungrabber, one-world statists in disguise who secretly support tagging you like a trout in a game preserve. Only a vote for Cthululu can preserve our Constitution! All who disagree with me are traitors at best." - no longer acceptable. This example offers no information about actual legislation; and instead is just the author's political opinion unsupported by fact.

If someone would like to start a booster thread in Activism suggesting what we can do to make sure this video receives a lot of attention and increases the chance it gets heard in debates, then I think that would be a great topic there as well.

3. The NFA. Congress' power to tax was never meant as a means to infringe on basic rights. The 2A is one of those.

I am fairly certain that requiring a title II weapon holder to fill out an "Application to Transport NFA items interstate" could be taken off of the books easily. I don’t believe the commerce clause could be used to argue their side effectively. Everybody agrees that it would be hard to prove in the court of law that the NFA is an infringement because it is a constitutional tax on goods, but surely having to notify the fed (ATF) of legal interstate transport is an infringement.

I think we could fight and win a lot of these irrational and unconstitutional laws, but it takes money and time. I barely have neither of those.

Tom,
Even before I watched the video I knew (as everyone else who listen to Guntalk) what the question was about. I sincerely hope they pick that question and I am very much excited to hear what the candidates have to say. I bet there will be a lot of dancing around. The only two folks who can probably name specific laws to repeal are Ron Paul and Huckabee. As to the rest of the field, the 2 amendment is like the Federal Reserve Board. It is there but what it does, they are not sure.

Guys, I didn't know if this is the right section, so if it's not, just move it.

If putting it in another section will help get the votes which, I think, help it get the attention of CNN, then by all means, do it.

Thanks.

Who knows? This just might play into the CNN bias of "we know we need more gun control laws, and this just shows what a bunch of kooks those guys are."

Hmmmm. How about cross posting to anti-gun forums?

It is already among top rated (#77) in News and Politics. For those who have not voted, please do so.

A couple of weeks ago I checked out a number of the youtube videos for the upcoming debate, and I was surprised at how poor most of them were (e.g., mumbling, dark, weird questions, etc.).

In contrast, your video is great -- high video quality, concise and to the point! Maybe it would have a better chance to be selected if you had asked for which ONE law instead of three? (Having the candidates citing three of anything I suspect will be thought of as taking too long in this "mini-soundbite" society of ours.)

In any case, THANKS for representing the firearms community in a positive way. Your efforts are appreciated.

Excellent question Mr Gresham and well done video.

You might have clarified as 'Federal gun control laws' as they cannot do anything about state, local laws as president.

How do I vote for this question?

I think you do this....when veiwing the video there are 5 stars in the lower left corner. Click the star all the way to the right, thus giving it a 5 star rating.

Well done! You and Mr. Smith make a good team reminiscent of the Smothers Brothers at their peak.

I have an off-the-wall suggestion.

Consider contacting Judge Joe Brown to see if there's a possibility for the team of Gresham & Smith to appear on his television program in some way. I just discovered that Brown is very much a Second Amendment supporter and recently said on his program that he carries a gun every day, as do many other Americans.

Outstanding

Tom, you guys done good.

I'm all impressed and stuff.

Heck, I might actually watch if I could see them try to answer that.

I thought it was very well spoken and insightful. Unfortunately, it's for those very same reasons that I think it will never be asked during the debates. Well done regardless.

I think its an excellent question, but I don't think it is likely to get picked, at least not if the Republican leadership is doing the picking. I don't think anyone running has the spine to answer the question.
