Finally got a chance to take out my new Yugo AK, which was a lot of fun, despite the jamming. Anyways, my guess it that the mags are the culprit, but I'll let you decide:
The rifle seemed to function fine when the mags had 5 or less rounds in them (30 round Yugo mags that came with the gun). Any more than 5 would cause stoppages sometimes as often as every other round. These stoppages occurred as the bolt slammed forward on a half-fed round i.e. the round was at a 45 degree angle coming out of the mag when the bolt hit it (about halfway between the shoulder and the base of the cartridge).
I think its the mags because:
1. The stoppages seemed to correlate with the number of rounds in the mag.
2. One mag seemed to feed better than the other.
3. Both Wolf and Golden Tiger 7.62x39 were used to equal success/failure.
But alas, I am a newbie when it comes to diagnosing stoppages. What do you think is the problem, and how can I fix it?
