I already have an M48 and have a good bit of info on it. I just bought (but have not recieved yet) a 24/47. As far as I can tell, this is a Yugo version of the model 24, but I don't know what the /47 stand for. I believe it has an intermediate action like the M48, but with a straight bolt.

Is it as strong, accurate as the M48? Is it suitable to rechamber to 308, or 338 federal? I have some of those really hot Turk loads. Can I shoot those in this rifle or reserve them for my M48? Lastly, can I swap stocks with the M48? I see that boyds has m48 stocks but not 24/47 stocks.

Thanks in advance.

I have 24/47 and love it had my gunsmith bend down bolt and scoped it ,iv'e shot turk with no problems, shoots best with rommania 154 grn 1'' groups @100 yds.the 8mm is just as good as any 308.the most fun i hade was when i took it out to my gunsmith farm,he told me that brush pile is 660 yds, dont no how he knows that but i'll take him for his word,we set an 55 gal drum @ about 650 and drove back to the barn ,had a 15 to 20 mile cross wind that day,i hit it twice out of 5 shots ,the next time i hit 3 out 5,just caught outside left 6 in group.i was shooting 3 ft high and 2 into the wind had a great time .:)Ooo i think the 47 stands 4 last year they were made not sure about that .

it would seem to me that common milsurp rifle talk would apply

24/47 would be Model of 1924 revised 1947. much like a 91/30 is a M1891 design change 1930

other examples
Yugo 59/66
Styer M95/34
as for the technical differances... no clue. was never a mauser guy. but slowly getting there

I need not to impress enyone but myself...(4):)how ever it did take me 115 rounds to get there.

I've never been impressed with m48s- a lot of them are poorly made, including two of them that I've own(ed). The 24/47 were originally built before the war and were made right to start with.

The 24/47 I picked up was shooting about a foot high even at 200 yards. I picked up a sight blank from Brownells and finally got it to the range today.

Video goodness.

The M48s I've seen tend to look a little better, but these 24/47s shoot well enough that I don't think I'm missing anything.

Crackedbutt (love the handle), all due respect, but it seems you've a real problem with the Yugo 48. I realize you're drawing your opinion from two separate examples. Anyone else? Any other really bad experiences from their Yugo 48? I've shot a couple thousand rounds through my ONE rifle, and it's performed like a champ. Any other bad (or great) experiences? Thank you!

Ok, my two cents worth

I like my 24/47 better than my M48. The M48 has an extraction problem... expressed by many on other gun sites over the years. Lots of difficult sticking extractions actually. And we are not talking steel case ammo either, like in some Mosin problems. The 24/47, unlike the M48, has as smooth an action as you can find in a Mauser milsurp in my humble experience.

Niner - since you posted your reply twice, is it now worth 4 cents?

Anyway - I bought the 24/47 and I'm in the process of cleaning all the cosmoline off of it, then I'll compare it to my M48. FYI, my M48 is a fine shooter, and I've never had any problems, extraction or otherwise. I've had it for about 3 years and shot about 2000 rounds through it. I have high hopes for the 24/47.

Shoot safe -
