I've seen these pistols for sale recently and I'm wondering if any of you have one and can tell me about them. How is the quality, function, etc.... I've seen some that look really nice, and I realize it is just a .32 but they are inexpensive and for the price they seem really tempting.

They are a 50s era rough copy of the Walther PP.
The CZ-70 is a later version of the CZ-50 that had some improvements to the extractor and a couple other areas to better reliability and longevity of the pistol.
These guns were used until fairly recently by the Czech Police and some Military officers.

Overall they aren't bad guns for the money.
Spare magazines are still available from Gun Parts Inc.

Gun Blast had a decent article about the pistols here recently and you may enjoy reading what they had to say.

To understand the CZ-70 , you must first learn about it's older brother. The CZ-50 was designed in 1947-48 and was was used by both the military and police. Using many of the German PP design features the CZ-50 still had several design faults in the trigger mechanism. In the late 1960s improvements resulted in the new and improved CZ-70. The CZ-50 and CZ-70 look alike and many parts will interchange but the CZ-70 is more durable. I own one and I have found it to be very reliable. It's not fussy about what it eats, it's very compact and it's inexpensive enough that I'm not afraid to throw it into my tackle box. I don't carry it as a defensive weapon but I would not be afraid too. There's nothing wrong with the .32 ACP as a defensive round, don't be put off by those who post that the only proper and effective weapon for self defence is a 44 Mag . That's a bunch of bull :), carry and use what ever you feel comfortable with, don't worry about the Rambo wannabes. :)

My brother has one.

Very reliable. Typical service type pistol with small military type sights. And it's a chunk for such a little one. All steel.

Oh yes, I forget to mention, like the gun it copied ( The Walther PP ) the first round trigger action is atrocious. and it also has a serrated trigger which really doesn't help.

Onmilo, Ron, the Zastava 70 has nothing to do with the pistols you are talking about.

The CZ you mention is Ceska Zbrojovka, used to be in Czechoslovakia. This is Crvena Zastava, which was in Yugoslavia. Zastava M70 is not related to any Walther at all, the only thing they got in common is that they are both pistols. It is also not related to CZ-50.

Zastava M70 can be best described as a baby Tokarev. It has the same modular firing mechanism, but no breech locking. The trigger is stamped steel, also like Tokarev. It's a heavy steel pistol, which makes the recoil negligible. The trigger isn't the greatest, though.

White Horse Radish, Three things, I own both a CZ-50 and CZ-70. They are both the same pistol, use the same magazines and 90 percent of the parts will inter change. (Check with different gun parts sources if you don't believe me.). Second I own both a PP and a PPK, when I say the Czech copied the designed features of the PP I can sit here and compare. Since the Walther PP came first I would have to think ( unless Ceska Zbrojobka was able to travel back in time and look over Carl Walthers drafting board ) it was the PP that was copied. Third, I have at least 5 references that state the CZ70 is a improved CZ50. As far as using VZ instead of CZ, Most of my references use the Prefix CZ. I am not talking about the Yugo M70 ( I didn't even know there was such an animal. I am referring to the Czech CZ (VZ)50 and the CZ (VZ) 70. :)

good pistols, well made according to my gun dealer , i bought one but i decide to trade it in for a bigger cal. it's hard to find a spare clip for it..good for ccw though..

Ron, it's not your knowledge of CZ70s 50s he's questioning. Your talking about about another gun entirely.

Oh, I don't disagree, just a little confused as to how the Model 70 Pistol got into the discussion about the CZ (VZ) 50 and 70.

Ron, it's not the model 70 that got into a discussion of CZ pistols. It is the CZ pistols that got brought into a Zastava discussion. Look at the thread title. Here: "Zastava Model 70 .32acp questions"

Your CZ is NOT Zastava in any way, shape or form. And the discussion was not about CZ until Onmilo mistakenly started talking about them. jon_in_wv was NOT asking about CZ pistols at all.

This is a common confusion. They are both CZ, but one is Czech and the other is Yugo.

Ouch, Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't. However I'm finding the more I think I know, the more I find out I don't know. Thanks W H for the clearing up. :)

Oh OK, we are all dummies because we tried to offer a bit of advice on a pistol but we mistook the type of pistol the original poster was inquiring about.
Stupid me.
Age makes things fuzzy at times, too bad I can't keep everything in my head at all times.
OK so it is the Zastava M-70 single action .32 acp we are inquiring about,,,, how stupid of me.

As stated, a single action blowback version of the Tokarev design in a more compact smaller caliber package.

About the same weight as the double action CZ-70 but single action only and I wouldn't rely on the safety.
Carrying the pistol chamber empty would be recommended.
The pistol is reliable enough with standard ball ammunition and spare magazines are all but impossible to come by and all the guns I have seen offered only come with one magazine.

The CZ-70 would be a better buy than the M-70 in my most humble and ignorant opinion.

As I said....

my brother has a Zastava. I believe they're made in Croatia. They are quite a chunk for such a small pistol. Southern Ohio Gun has been selling them for 109.95 for quite a while. Thre's a nice picture on their website.
And yes, I also think firearms made by CZ are superior, and understandably more expensive.

Zastava Md. 70 Pistol 32 A.C.P. $109.95 ( 2 or more... $99.95 ea.) Marked Crvena Zastava

Now that I've got my head pulled out of my butt ( sometimes it gets stuck), If they're still around I would go with the CZ-70, only a few more dollars ( I think my cost 129.00) and parts and magazines are available and they will fit any holster made for a PP:) .

I had one.....very solidly built. Interested design....based on the Tok pistol for sure.

Its a small gun but its heavy.

Got mine from SOG.

On a side note you can send the serial number in an email to Zastava and they will let you know when it was made....or atleast they did for me. Mine was a 1976 gun.

I have a CZ 50 and I am having trouble finding magazines that work well. Out of 4 magazines 3 can only be fired with 6 rounds, If they are fully loaded the first round nosedives into the magazine. anyone else have this problem or a fix for this?

I bought a Zastava model 70 last year.
IMHO, the only thing it has going for it is that it is cheap.

It is heavy.
It is SA.
Somewhat like a miniture Tokarav or an old Colt pocket auto.
Some parts are available from Canada.

Frankly, your money is better spent elsewhere.

depart77, I just picked up magazines for the 50/70 from e-gunparts ( interchangeable ). 20 some apiece but both are very reliable.

dpart. You should try starting a seperate thread if you want a better response. This thread is supposed to be about the ZASTAVA MODES 70. Not the CZ 50.

Teakwood. Being all steel and single action aren't exaclty detractors for me. What else did you not like about it?
