I wish the nipples were like that, allow the cap ignition to come in but no pressure to come back.

I just did this very thing a couple days ago. Worked like a charm. A 50 cal TC Hawken barrel. Zerk threads were exactly same as nipple threads. Pumped the load out and then took zerk out and drove the grease back out with a jag and patch. A little bit of a mess but success.

You can't turn your nose up at anything as a last resort (and I'm sure this is a good 'un), but if at all possible I'd go and buy one of those CO2 gadgets rather than having to cope with all that grease around the place...

Have a couple of small grease guns around for my boat trailer hubs. One could be cleaned of the marine grease and loaded with crisco as mentioned. I don't shoot rifle and the occasion I do load a revolver with no powder, I just pull the nipple and use a brass drift.

Interesting thought but do caps work on an actual flame or just hot gas. Concept would not work with just a flame one would think.

I'm pretty sure that a one way ball would prevent the ignition of the charge. It's not only the hot gas but the sparks and flame that is needed to set off the charge.

Not to mention that the fouling would soon render a teenie tiny one way valve of this sort stuck in either the open or closed position. And as we've pretty well all seen already it doesn't take much of even a soft fouling blockage to stop the ignition. Can you imagine what it would be like with a small spring loaded steel ball in the path?

Still, it's a nice idea to dream about.

If the charge didnt come back threw the nipple there wouldnt be any fouling lol
