.41 Mag Association

I've got a Ruger Blackhawk .41 mag that I bought back in the 80's. I've long ago lost interest in it until now. This is a great thread! I thought I was the only one who had one in my state! OK, it's time to start reloading for it again! Thanks for re-igniting my love for that poor misunderstood revolver!

Joined the 41 club recently w purchase of Blackhawk 41, 1979 vintage in awesome shape and LOVE it.

Question tho, I am far sighted and have some white paint on front sight which is fine but back sight have tiny white dots of paint on each side but I get blur out with both eyes open or just one. Any color recommendations for dots on rear sight or should I just get a rear sight w fiber optics in it and if so, what colors don't "blur" so easy for those of us w optical challenges? Any tips or links for such appreciated. Love the .41 Mag association and proud to join in. Tks

I used to shoot pistol bullseye matches & we'd focus on the sights & let the target blurr. If you can do that I think it'll help, is there any chance of getting glasses that'll correct your farsightedness? Try focusing on the front sight you might be able to get a good sight picture that way?
That is a nice looking six-gun you have there, congratulations, & welcome!
Good shooting

My shooting glasses have bifocals ground on the upside rather than downside, so my sights are reasonably in focus. This is the same principle as electrician's glasses used for close over head work.

I've always worn glasses and something that has helped a lot, especially now as I get older, is going to a thinner front blade or wider rear notch. A little extra light on the sides of the front sight makes it a whole lot easier to get a good sight picture.

If you have a friend that has an older TC Contender - take a look. They have a very thin front sight, and first time I shot one I was impressed with how much clearer the sight picture was with the thin blade.

OK, I'll give it a shot. Here's crummy photo to prove I'm not lying!

For a gun made in the early 80's, the blueing is in great shape.

Well

The only thing that would make it nicer is if it was sittin on my desk right now. I just missed buying an early 70s 4 incher a couple days ago. But the price was pretty high. Consolation prize was a NIB Model 18-4. Price was pretty high on it too. Now I have 3 of those 4 inch 22 K frames. I did get 300 new 41 mag cases and 250 or so Remington 210 gr HPs for the 41 as well as a set of Dillon 41 mag dies. Price was good on that stuff though. Welcome to the 41 Club:evil:..you're just getting started

Well, I took it to the range the day I got it, but the only ammo I could locate was some Leverevolution Hornady ammo. The recoil was quite stout from that load! When I didn't flinch the shot a foot low, it shot right where the sights were... at ~30 feet.

I've got dies and brass and bullets on the way. I'll be loading up some of my own ammo soon and learning to shoot it competently.

Only complaint is that it had been left bone dry, and there was some rust on internal parts. I popped the sideplate and (using a dissassembly guide book) took it apart as far as the rebound slide, which I couldn't get use. Liberally oiled, and rubbed rust off with a towel. The cylinder release is still very sticky and stiff, and I am starting to think someone lock-tite-ed the screw holding that catch/button on... I can't budge the thing. Any ideas?

It's also got a wide, flat serrated trigger on it. I pretty much only shoot revolvers DA, so I'm not in love with that. Eventually, I may swap out a smooth trigger, but keep the original one intact. And I've got a line on some Ahrend Retro Target grips that a buddy has lying around. That last part will happen sooner than any fooling with the trigger.

327 Federal Magnum would pretty well complete the series as well as better validate the cartridge than the various revolvers.

Mr. Imperato answered my email and was encouraging ...more than a year ago.
