This really is the year of the 9mm revolver !!!

Korth with their NightHawk
Ruger with the LCR
Charter Arms with the PITBULL
Taurus with the 905 (blued & stainless)
Alfa Proj with their 9231
S&W with 3 offerings now - the 6.5" 929, the 5" 986 and now:

The 2.5" 986 !!!

Pretty cool:)

I don't think it will be replacing my lcr, but it looks cool.

I think the price difference between the 986 and the LCR is due to S&W adding anti-crimp jump technology to the revolver.

Wouldn't mind seeing a K or J frame 9mm from them, N frames are just too big for me to carry concealed without a complete wardrobe overhaul.

The only price I've been able to find on this so far is $934.00 including shipping & handling... but I'd be surprised if the price ever went as low as $800.00

Cooldill:
How do you mean? Non-fluted cylinders are what the cool kids are using nowadays.

I guess I'm not up on what the cool kids are doing. A non fluted cylinder for a 9mm cartridge just looks cheaper. The plain jane, off color of titanium, or whatever it is does not make this attractive to me. Why does a 9mm need a titanium cylinder anyway. A 44 mag or larger, I could understand but a 9mm?
At least it isn't a .380 LOL!
I guess I am just old fashioned but for a performance or pro series S&W revolver, whatever they call this line, I would expect something a bit "prettier" when paying a lot more money than the standard production models.
I assume this is a cousin of a model 38.
I have handled a model 60 pro series, action was very smooth and it almost made me want one, but I'd rather have a beefier barrel too.
Hey if the kids like these, they can buy em.
There's nothing wrong with that revolver.
I imagine it's a very light handgun too but it's just not for me. Funny how 9mm wasn't enough for SD and now it's OK again.
With all the guns out there, firearms companies have to have the latest thing and so do the kids.

In case anyone missed it, the new 2-1/2" M986 is a seven shot L frame. Definitely trimmer than an N frame, but not quite as small as a K frame.

I have a 5" 986 and it is a sweet shooter. Seven round moon clip loading is handy.

I'm not a big fan of short barrel revolvers, but I might make an exception with the 2-1/2" 986.

Smith and Wesson doesn't have a frame that fits a 9mm sized cylinder.

I think the only manufacturer that does is Korth.

Taurus did it with their 9mm snub nose at one time, too. Just ask member Michael Tinker Pearce.

Most 9mm snub nose revolvers I see have a .38 Special length cylinder, which looks nice to the eye, but the free bore in the cylinder is a bit long for 9mm. The S&W version makes sense, even though it doesn't look perfect.

I didn't know the 986 was an L-Frame

I thought it was an N-Frame like the 929.

I learn something new everyday on The High Road. :)

I bet that 6.5in barrel being 9mm is really accurate?
