I'm going to have a need for a shoulder holster this summer. It won't be used often, as I vastly prefer belt holsters and have a few IWB and OWB to choose from. The occasion is a several state road trip. The pistol is a 1911.

Since it won't be used much, it'll probably just be my "road trip" holster, I'm considering two bargain bin holsters. Barsony and Tagua. I know they're not great. But they are also half the cost of a higher quality shoulder rig. I've seen reviews of each brand, but can anyone compare the two?

Both can be had for about $105-$110 on the 'net, so cost between the two is negligible. If I'm going to spend the money, I may as well get the better of the two, even if it's still not a lot.

If i planned on carrying in a shoulder holster more often, I'd spring for an Original Jackass rig by Galco. But this is probably going to be a once or twice a year thing. Thanks.

I've had a couple of shoulder rigs for my 1911. Unfortunately I don't have experience with the models you presented, however, I have had good luck with Tagua holsters in general. A couple of things to consider. From experience, I find the horizontal position of the two rigs shown to be a little uncomfortable when driving long distances. The muzzle hits the seat back and I'm always finding the grip to be bumping me in the left arm. I ended up getting a vertical shoulder rig which I feel is more comfortable and conceals better under lighter clothing. The draw is not as convenient with the vertical holster though. Just from the looks of the two you listed, I'd say the tagua will be more comfortable due to the X design. The barsony looks like it would move around too much.
Also, make sure your permit is valid in the states you will be traveling through. Reciprocity between states changes from time to time so just verify you're good to go, and check again right before your trip.
Good luck, be safe

No experience with either holster but for around the same money you might want to check out the Bianchi X15 (vertical carry), or the X16 (horizontal carry).

Zonamo, I'll be in a cage. Gonna have the family with me.

Looks like I posted to the wrong thread about shoulder holsters. Must have had two threads open at once:

El Paso Saddlery makes a nice tanker style holster that I have been happy with. The strap on mine barely shows under a jacket with a darker shirt. Comfortable and can double as a field holster when you aren't on a road trip. About the same price range as the two you are considering.

Galco Miami Classic (the old Jackass rig). I have used one for 20 years and wouldn't trade it for any other rig.

I found a place online that will sell the Jackass rig for twenty bucks more than the two I was originally looking at. I'll go that route if I can get an affirmative answer to one question that a couple hours of online prodding has not resolved: Can the newer Galco holsters carry a 1911 cocked and locked? I'm finding conflicting information about the older holsters and newer holsters with re-designed thumb breaks. I'm choosing the Jackass over the Miami Classic because of the holster attachment and the cant it provides.

Anybody have input on the new holsters?

I'd agree with that. I bought one for my G20 about 20 years ago. I found it would also hold my .40 Ruger compact, but my 1911 won't quite work in it.
For a great holster to wear while in a car, and would also work while on a motorcycle, a military style M3 is great for a 1911. It doesn't conceal perfectly, as the strap is visible across the chest if your cover garment is open in front, but with a half-zipped jacket, it's invisible. You can adjust the holster for a strong-side or cross carry, and it has a belt clip to hold the bottom. When I'm hiking with a pack, I wear it, because it stays clear of the pack straps. +1 on the m3. My preferred way to carry if I can wear a jacket...or even a flannel shirt over my t shirt

I did the flannel shirt thing today. It worked great with the Classic Lite.
