Single Action With Swing Out Cylinder

Think that this TFL comment may be from THR's commenter Jim Watson but do not know.

Yes. North American Arms produces the Sidewinder.

If you must have a Cowboy Gun, the only one of those I know of is the one old time custom gunsmith Gus Perett built for trick shooter Ashley Haines. He preferred the plowhandle grip and single action but needed a faster reload for his routines.

Hamilton Bowen has made Ruger Vaqueros with LIFT-out cylinder in the manner of the Sedgley SAA conversion.

Any double action revolver (except the few that are "double action only") can function as a single action, if you manually cock the hammer. This is probably why there was no market for a swing out cylinder single action.

You are so knowledgeable that on a lot of firearms question postings on forums, your posts come up first on a google search on a lot of questions. This has not been the first time that I googled a firearm question and your postings pop up as top results.

Got to be careful, though. My sig line some places is "I have a few facts and a lot of opinions."
I lost a lot of books in the Incident of 2010 and really miss the references. I recently found a quote by myself from one of them that was lost in the fire.

Years ago High Standard made a double action revolver wit swing-out cylinder that looked like a western style single action. Believe it was called the "Longhorn" and "Sidewinder." depending on configuration.

They must have had ten or a dozen sub-models of the Double Nine. One old ad showed them in a wheel formation.

There were Spanish copies of the Colt SAA that had swing out cylinders, But the Colt type SAA was really an outdated design long before DA revolvers became common. It was adopted by the US Army in 1873 because it was rugged and available, and has survived primarily due to the :mystique of the "Old West". Some revolvers that look like SA's really are DA/SA, witness the Cooper percussion revolvers.

In Russia and some other European countries, the army had two versions of the military revolver, a single action version issued to NCO's and "other ranks" who were supposedly less well trained than officers, who were issued the DA version.

I carried one of those for many a mile back in my younger days. That was the gun that popped into my forgetful mind when I read the OP. Mine was completely trouble free and fairly accurate. I finally saved enough to graduate to a single six which I still have.
