Does anyone know of an organization in Northern Virginia that offers firearms training to 8-10 year old kids? I'm trying to line up some training up for my grandkids. I don't live in VA so I'm out of the loop there.
I put my son through a hunters safety course. These courses are state run and students receive diplomas once they pass the written exam. It teaches the 10 commandments of gun safety and alot more. Not sure if this an option for you since you may or may not want them to hunt. Good luck.
I second the Project Appleseed idea. I've done it alongside of elementary school students, and it is very good introductory training, and the younger ones had a lot of fun and learned a lot.
It is not uncommon for local clubs to have youth programs, but many do not go that young.
4H Shooting Sports. At 9 my grandson was enrolled in the 4H Firearm Program. It starts with the basics with a big emphasis on safety. Trap/skeet, rifle and pistol. He's in high school now and due to football and wrestling taking up a lot of his time he hasn't participated in a year but he has his own 1911, kept in my safe, that he shoots regularly. He is able to break it down and clean it without assistance. 4H was a positive influence for all of us. http://www.4-hshootingsports.org/
