Howdy. Can anyone help with Berry’s 158 RN? 231 powder. I can’t find that exact combo.

With the plated Rainier equivalent to that bullet, I’ll use 4gr HP38 for a mild 38 load. For a hotter load I would work up to 4.5 or so.

Reason I asked was that kidneyboy suggested 6.0 Grs of W-231, not good in a Spl case, but most likely fine (haven't checked) in a .357 case.

"For 357 Berry's 158gr FP I use 6.0gr of 231." First sentence in my post.....

I've used a lot of Berrys 158gr THP and FP both loaded with 5.0gr of Universal. Very Clean and accurate

In your OP you said 38/357 but I'm guessing you are using .38 Special brass.

My two favorite 148gr wadcutter loads in .38 Special brass are:

3.2gr W231/HP-38 under a 148gr HBWC seated flush with the case mouth. I just remove the flare on the case mouth.
3.4gr W231/HP-38 under a 148gr DEWC seated to either groove at the ends of the bullet. I use just a slight crimp into the groove.

Those work well for me in my revolvers.

Yes 38 spl brass mainly. Also how i should have phrased it.

So, what OAL?

Like I said in my previous post I seat the HBWC flush with the case mouth and the DEWC to the crimp groove on either end which is just off the end of the bullet.
In case I wasn't clear (Easy to do for me), I was asking Lethal rx7 what OAL he intended to use and quoted your post as an example with those lengths (Not listed, but easy to figure) before I noticed he had already quoted it.

3.6 Grs W-231 with a DEWC seated flush is much different than with one seated out some to sit in the throat. You know that of course.
