Pocket SA .380

So.

So I got that itch.

A new gun might could be in my future.

As all of you might have surmised, there could be leanings towards a pocket .380. Of the single action variety.

I’ve pretty well narrowed it down to the Colt Mustang Pocketlite or the Kimber Micro .380 (base model, either two-tone or stainless).

The Colt is a Colt, and the progenitor of the style.

The Kimber has more useful sights, and runs about a bill or so less than the Colt.

Before anyone speaks up, the Sig 238 is way too squared off and blocky for my personal tastes. Aesthetics, I know, but sometimes that matters.

Much of this will come down to what I can actually put hands on when the time comes.

All that being said, does anyone have any strong feelings one way or the other as far as these two choices go?

Background lays out that my most carried guns are either a Glock 19 or a S&W 642.

Curiously, I would be most likely seeking a holster for OWB carry for the .380.

I was leaning towards the Colt, as I had laid hands on some examples at a gun show or two, and it felt pretty good to heft.

I have manhandled several examples of the Sig, and they just weren’t as comfy.

I was mainly distracted by the Kimber due to the more useful sights, though I have never encountered one in the wild.

I waffled about the Glock 42, but it doesn’t seem as small. Nor does it speak to me the way the Mustang did, in spite of my personal love for the G19.

Well this decision will have to wait.

My missus and I attended our monthly flea market this morning, and I stumbled across a .32 Pocket Hammerless, type 2 if I’m not mistaken.

Shooter grade, as it has almost no finish left, and curiously seems to have been fitted with a type 1 barrel from what I can figure.

The serial number puts it just shy of 2000 before the switch to the type 3. According to the Colt website, it was made in 1910.

The barrel sticking out puzzled me at first, that’s what causes me to think it is a type 1 (4 inch) barrel in the shorter slide. It doesn’t bother me that much, but I might keep my eyes peeled for a correct barrel. There is a company I found that sells replacements, but they are out of stock on the correct one, and I am uncertain if they will obtain or produce more. But like I said, it doesn’t really bug me that much for now.

No, I didn’t pay that much. I got it for $425. If it shoots as is, or without too much tinkering, I feel like it will be worth every cent.

I’ve wanted one for a while, waited too long, and they were scarce and the prices kept creeping up. I had resigned myself to never having one, so I was most pleased to find this one.

As far as the original topic, I was waffling in a new direction towards a Glock 42. Now that I have more time to consider, I am reminded that it was the Mustang that piqued my interest in the first place, so that is likely the direction I will go when the time comes.
