If you have VA hearing aids, you might ask the audiologist if they will make a mold of your ears and give them to you. Better than 33db....nearly absolute silence. That alone or with muffs is great.
I've got new VA hearing aids here recently, and and my audiologist had them made so that they shut down on a certain decibel that is detrimental to what's left of my hearing. They work really good, and I can even place my muffs over the top of them.
The hole in the hearing aid is so they don't build pressure in the ear canal.Good idea to wear the muffs over the hearing aids, because the hearing aids have an open drain canal (for lack of a better term) so they don't block sound all that well even when they shut down.

Makes sense, thanks. The hole in the hearing aid is so they don't build pressure in the ear canal.
If there wasn't a hole the air pressure could build up and become very painful.
hps1, I do the same as we have some Mohave Green rattlers out here and they are very aggressive, (not as large) the electronic muffs give me a slight edge in warning.
