Somebody post a picture of the head stamp so we may all see the mark of Cain, and thereby avoid this evil brass.

Company history of American Ammunition (A-MERC) - https://afte.org/laravel.php/gallery/index/60

"AA is one of the few companies who manufactures virtually all of the components used in the assembly of its finished products. AA forms the brass cartridge cases from raw brass billets. AA casts the projectiles (bullet) from lead ingots. AA electroplates with copper the cast projectiles on a dedicated plating line. AA assembles these components, along with premium powder, and new primers into new top quality ammunition. At each stage of the manufacturing process it perform EXTENSIVE QUALITY INSPECTIONS to ensure that performance meets or exceeds SAAMI/ANSI standards."

Not just terrible brass, but terrible ammo. American is the only ammo brand that I’ve seen keyhole and make a basketball size “group” at 5 yards. Then the range owner who sold it to me tried to tell it was because my barrel was worn out

I had some 38spl brass from AMERC and it was ok. Never heard anything good about the 45 cap. I do have 2 boxes of 45. Anyone interested?

I'm very fortunate that in all my brass scrounging I'v only found one Amerc case, a 45 ACP. I don't remember it having a stepped interior, but I tossed it before I did anything else...

Not previously knowing anything about Amerc, I came across two pieces of Amerc 45ACP brass that I reloaded. As soon as I reloaded them, I knew something was not quite right with the way the went through the press. I put them aside to be shot separately from all the rest. Even though they would probably go bang without a problem, I think now I'll be trashing those rounds.

I was given 200 pieces of "A USA" which I never heard of. Are they related or does anyone recognize the name?

"A USA" is Armscor, which is a Philippine company, but the A USA brass is made in their plant here in North America. There's nothing wrong with Armscor brass, most of which is headstamped AP, sometimes with the year of manufacture, i.e.; AP 18, which would mean it was made in the plant in the Philippines in 2018.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Just for clarification...A-merc is kind of yucky.
I found a whole box of fresh A-merc.44 mag brass lying on the ground at the range. Shiny! The flashholes were in the middle. Can't be as bad as everyone says......."Why can't I eject these things? These are mild magnum loads, what is going on?" Whap whap whap on the ejector rod. Oh, split case.....on one mild reload. It IS brass but what alloy and how it was worked and heat-treated remains a deep mystery.

Don't know about the brass, but the ammo was absolute crap. Scary bad quality.
