Henry now offers a side gate

I know it's extremely unlikely, but I would really appreciate a Henry in 444 Marlin. Fingers crossed.

What exactly is “brasslite”?

If they do a 45-70 all weather with the gate i wont be able to resist. But im with craig, i want steel.the Brass looks ok but has a cheesey look , might look better once its got a little wear. To me they always look like a tee ball trophy or something. I have a 45-70 henry in steel and i will say its an awesome rifle. I also like they left the tube up front, safer unloading (no manual safety, which is awesome)and easier cleaning if its been in the schmoo.

30-30 for me

When they make a side loading steel 30-30 or .35 Remington with a standard butt stock instead of crescent then I’ll be interested.

I don't mind the loading tube. I had a Model 60 Marlin years ago that I shot 1000's of rounds through and I have a 44 magnum Henry Big Boy that I've put about 1000 rounds through. I'm just used to loading some rifles that way. BTW the Henry is the most accurate rifle I own out to 100 yards and I love the brass look. I get a lot of comments about how good it looks when I'm at the range.

I suspect that this may become either a popular option or just standardized on all of their center-fire lever actions now.
I think that they should at least eliminate the loading port on the outer magazine tube.
It's part of what alienates shooters who want the loading gate, and that is a lot of shooters.
It's kind of a hermaphrodite loading system but much better than before.
I suspect that a Big Boy Steel and a .30-30 steel version will follow.
There doesn't look like there is enough meat left to enlarge the ejection port and loading port for .45-70 though.

If Henry doesn't do it, I think that aftermarket magazine tube kits will show up. Ideally this would be a single standard Marlin-style tube with an end cap secured with a screw. But, if the larger I.D. of a single tube is a problem, then it would be very easy to include an inner brass tube attached to a standard Marlin-style end cap and still secured with a screw.

That's what I thought, they didn't leave a whole lot there to begin with. The tube-loading isn't something I care about and I think their guns look better without the extra hole.

Nice rifle -- but I'd want it with a blued steel receiver and drilled and tapped for a receiver sight (or even a tang sight.) And I'd prefer it in .35 Rem.

I want a 41 mag

A steel version in 35 Rem.?........... I could lose control of my normally frugal spending habits and whip out the Visa card.

AC-DC , Henry makes a nice looking rifle, I have a couple & this is a good looking upgrade.

Steel receiver henry, side loading gate , Skinner peep with integrated ring mounts, Leupold 1-4x scope with quick release rings. Dream hunting rifle . I like 30-30 or 45-70. But since I only hunt deer 30-30 is cheap and plenty for what I need it for.

marlin can and did make a lever action centerfire rifle(.32 H&R magnum) with out a loading gate, using the tube for reloading. both will work, but for me topping off the magazine thru the gate is better. take one or the other, but having both makes no sense and is redundant. when you unload the tube do you lever the round out of the chamber first or wait until you dump the shells out of the tube? if you lever a round from the chamber first will a new round not be pushed onto the lifer and have to be levered out after you unload the tube? to top off the tube you will have handle a loaded rifle by the muzzle using both hands and will you dump them into your hat or try to catch them in your hand? just asking.

Why does the loading gate look canted downward? Is that just an optical illusion because of the taper of the ejection port?

I wouldn’t use the tube thing for the exact reasons eastbank mentioned. Safer and easier to point it in a safe direction and cycle them through. And if I’m not going to use it I don’t want it. I think it’s ugly and I don’t want the tube to come flying out if it gets inadvertently turned.

Some marlin folks hate the cross bolt safety on the newer marlins, but I like it, I use it for loading and unloading only.

Same here. In a litigious society Marlin was forced to come up with an additional safety device to keep the lawyers at bay.
To give credit where it is due, they came up with one that did not alter the traditional qualities of the rifle or eliminate the half-cock feature, and is as small and unobtrusive as they could make it. Even better, it is actually a useful feature for cycling rounds out of the rifle.
And if you absolutely want it gone, it can be replaced with an aftermarket dummy screw set.

However, I'm still not really sold on retaining the removable tube feature on the Henry if it has a loading gate.
I'm not really a belt and suspenders kind of guy.

Wow, can't wait for a 45 Colt model. They fixed the part that was missing.

Henry just got waaaaaayyyyyy more interesting...

I feel the same way with the Rossi safety. It's an added precaution. The tube unloading makes sense with a pistol caliber lever gun. Not so much with a 30-30 etc because it holds so few rounds.
