Collecting your favorite gun.

When I was younger I amassed a pretty good Mosin collection as well as some other things. But now I have children and a whole lot less disposable income, so I've become a lot more selective, and haven't bought anything in more than a year.
 
I sold and traded off a number of uncommon .22s years ago. The money is spent and few of the trades were as much fun. All I have left of the type is the Walther single shot. But I am shooting my ordinary .22 pistols a lot more than I did for a good while.
 
At one time i owned 17 Remington models 600, 660, 700, 721, and 722 guns. Or was it 19, I forget exactly. That number has been reduced to 9.

Also own many S&W series 10 revolvers.
 
Were I a collector (I am not), I would probably focus on two lines:

Ruger revolvers, both single and double action; they already represent the largest single group in my modest arsenal.
Remington Model Sevens; I have owned more Sevens than any other single rifle model and still have several in the safe.
 
At one point I was trying to collect a bunch of .32acp art-deco era Colt, Walther, Savage, Dreyse.....unfortunately most were irredeemable jam-o-matics and I got disgusted and sold off the lot of 'em.

I had 3 M1903 Springers at one point, but sold the two low numbered guns after reading the Hatcher Report.

For me it's the '86 Winchester, especially those very early ones before they were lightened. Why? Once in a while I get in a tough spot. To live, to eat, I need to make the shot, and I've had to accept for too long my very ordinariness. The '86 has a memory of what it was before, what a rifle should be. It'll make the shot.

I can recommend a classic grammar text, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. I might guess you meant shoot every one. As in every one of the guns. But one never knows. Some of the vintage .380 ACP's are elegant, and perhaps we share an admiration, but were I intending to shoot everyone, I'd tend to go with the 45 ACP.
 
Rugers, of which I have a few. Would like to fill in the gaps with a #1, a GP, and a Redhawk.
I am still mad at Colt for abandoning us in the past and dropping virtually all the good revolvers and Woodsman models so I haven't and won't add to the few I have.
Target shotguns would be next to complement my TB, TC, and Classic Trap and my M12 Skeet gun.
Dang, Farmer, you got me thinking.....
 
I have many and varied firearm interests but if I was to compose a "collection" per se, I'd complete the one I have already unintentionally started: The "top" representatives of classic Bullseye handguns, both revolvers and autos. I don't have that far to go but the darn things aren't getting any cheaper! :(
 
Browning P35 "HiPowers." I saw a collection back in the '80's that had 140 variations, some genuinely rare. Owner said "That ain't all of them." Joe
 
I currently collect "late vintage (pre-lock/MIM)" S&W K, L, and N frame revolvers. I also collect anything from WWII (mainly European Theater, right now). There's much I'd love to pursue -- revolvers and lever-action rifles of "the old west", guns from the "roaring '20's", Single-Shot cartridge military rifles, and probably more that I can't think of right now... sadly, my tastes exceed my current income...

For me it started after shooting a friends 5906. There is a LGS that seems to get gen 3's quite often.
He is very reasonable and calls me when he gets one. The 10 mm version just never seems to appear locally. I see them on gun broker but I am a bit leary of dropping 1000+ on something I haven't in person.

That, and they aren't the $69 they were when I bought my first one. Actually, originally that's why I bought them; they and the ammo were cheap, and my then 10 year old son could shoot them;

We spent two summers shooting them every day, he'd shoot 100 rounds a day if I let him, and I often did, because the ammo was $2.50 a box. He's 25 now and keeps asking when I'm going to give him the '30 Tula he's shooting in the pic. :)
 
Ruger #1's.

I don't have one. I've never even held, shouldered or shot one.

But I like them enough to want a bunch of them. I fell in love with the look ever since I saw my first one in a gun store as a high schooler... it was a Tropical in .458 Win and man, did I wish I had money enough to buy it!

Right now, I'm fairly satisfied with what I have acquired over the last 40 years. A few were "inherited", some were bought used, and some were bought new. Four are SA pistols (.22 Mag, .380, .32, & .25), three revolvers (.357, .32-20, & a .22LR/Mag), a .22LR SA rifle, a .22LR bolt rifle, and a .22 Mag bolt rifle. Centerfire rifles include a .243 bolt, a .357 carbine levergun, and an AK. Lastly, there are two shotties, a pump and a SxS with double triggers.
I have considered a SA carbine in .22 Mag to pair with that pistol but the ammo is too expensive to blow through a SA rifle. And, when you have a revolver that can shoot either LR or Mag (with a cylinder change), that makes three rifles and 2+ handguns that use 2 ammos, the wasteful carbine is unnecessary.

P35 HiPowers would be mine as well, for hand guns.

For rifles, probably the Ruger 10/22. Theyve made roughly 523,000 different models though .....
